i need some ideas about heating and such down here. (SFL) i'm unsure about some of the things i may need. i know a heat lamp is a nessary thing but what about a heating pad for underneith? my room is between 70-75 degrees (F) all the time and about 78-80 degrees (F) around winter (depending on how cold it is at the time) i'm including some pictures of the space in which i plan to put my snakes viv and the position of my lamp. ( i don't know if this will effect the heating of the viv or not so i'm throwing it in there) all ideas and suggestions are welcome! thanks!

I don't think your lamp should really affect the heating of your cage. Just keep in mind that you should provide a warm spot around 85F and a temp gradient of 10-15 degrees. I doubt you'll need any light at all, but you'll probably want a small UTH on a dimmer switch so that you can bring down the heat... in an 80F room, a UTH could easily overheat your corn. Just get your set-up ready before you get your corn, and check temps often and make little adjustments. You'll get it right. :)
If you have any more questions, feel free...

Actually, a heat lamp is not only unnecessary for snakes, but it is a fire hazard, and IMO should only be used with reptiles that require actual light. Snakes do not. So you need an appropriate sized UTH and a rheostat or thermostat to control it. Your snake will need a warm area of about 83-85F year round, so unless you have inefficient AC like I do, you will need heat for the snake.

Am in south Florida and if it isn't around 85ish on one side of the tank i just use a heat lamp.but i don't think you will need more then that.just get something to make sure you know the temper.

hmm, ok. that makes sence. but what's an IMO?
and just to make sure i understand i basically don't need a heat lamp, just a UTH and a rheostat or thermostat for temp. regulation?

So, how far south are you? I have friends around St. Pete that don't use external heat, but they like their house warm, too.
