Mice! They taste so nice!
so excited this week, went to stay with a friend in the Midlands, just outside Birmingham, UK. He wanted to show me a badger set, so we went and saw all it, plenty of fresh digging evident, but badgers all asleep, middle of a hot day, As we were walking along the track, I spotted deer tracks, showed him how the deer had been running then changed gait to walking. The ground was soft so you could see the change in pattern easily. We carrried along, and then turned a corner to find a drowsy roe deer hind 3 feet away! She woke up, startled, bounded off, stopped, looked at us, stamped her foot and disappeared into the woods! My closest ever encounter with a wild deer, and no camera, but I wouldn't have had time to get a good shot anyway. We found more tracks but no more sightings, wonderful day for me I just had to share.
