Incorperate a heat mat.

i think you can cut a square in the bottum and put a piece or glass or tile in that space and stick the uth on it.
 
You can drill a hole through the wood back the size of the cord and put the cord thourth the hole. All you have to do is cut the plug off and put a new one on. I really like the tile idea of putting the tile on the heat mat. Just my 2 cents. Remember on the new plug (black goes to brass) and (white goes to silver) and (green to green).
