Indy - hatchling Okeetee

Here are a few more, now that he occasionally sits still long enough for me to take a picture.

I just realized...

...that it looks like he's biting me in one of the pictures. It's an optical illusion - he hasn't tried to take a chunk out of me yet.

That is not an Okeetee, that is a very nice Okeetee.

LOL....Ummmm, Joe, I think you meant to write normal as your last word? A litte contradictory, hey? LOL.... ;)

And I agree with Joe (well kinda...LOL). That is a beautiful normal, but not an Okeetee. Looks it is going to be wonderfully colored as an adult.

Hmmm...if he isn't an Okeetee, I'm going to have a problem with the guy who sold him to me as an Okeetee. How sure are you that it's not, and what clued you in to the fact that it's not? I want to get some ammunition before I confront the breeder.

"Okeetee corns have a very bright orange background colour, with large very red blotches. The black borders around the blotches are very thick and well defined."

Mine has lots of orange along the sides, but the saddles are much more of a rust color than red, and the background is more of a silverish brown (like yours). Indy has a lot more orange on top though. Max's orange is just along his sides (no circles between the saddles).

Max is a normal (or Miami? Maybe?). Here's a closeup of his back and one of his underbelly and sides. Bad lighting though... the sides are much more orange than the saddles (reddish brown).

I thought the orange and red don't come out until later - he's only about 2 months old.

Thanks for the info - I'm trying to think how I should explain this to the guy I bought him from. Not that I'd return Indy at this point, but I want the guy to know that I feel that he ripped me off.

Why do you want an Okeetee? Just curious... Are you planning on breeding him?

Edit: This is an Okeetee. Note the orange background. Max is DEFINITELY not this., and from the looks of it... Indy neither.

Hey, if the colors come out later, then how could you tell as a hatchling that it's an Okeetee? Something to ask the breeder. ;)

I was toying with the idea - not for profit or anything, but just as a little hobby. It would be nice to know what I have in order to do that!

Plus I guess I just have a thing for Okeetees for some reason.

But... you didn't know what an Okeetee was. lol Normals are good for breeding anyway (so I hear). Indy's a beautiful... normeetee/okeenorm. lol ;)

LOL - Normatee - I think I just invented a new morph!

I do know what full grown Okeetees look like - I've read and re-read Kathy Love's book a hundred times. And the hatchling pics she has of some of her Okeetees look enough like Indy that I could believe he could be one. One pic in particular in the book shows a hatchling next to a yearling - the two are full siblings, and there is a HUGE difference in coloration. If you have the book, check it out - I think it's at the very beginning of the section where she talks about the various color morphs. Indy looks A LOT like the hatchling in that pic.

Definitely not a motley - Marien (the one in my avatar) is a motley. From what I've read, motleys don't have the checkerboard pattern on the stomach. Marien doesn't have this, but Indy does.

It's no big deal, really, but it's kinda like buying a Camry, then getting it home and finding out you have an Accord - both are nice cars, but damn, YOU WANTED A CAMRY!!! LOL

Bah. I'm not sure I will ever be able to properly identify corns. I'm looking right now at what SAYS "normal", but I'll be dammed if that background looks BRIGHT orange to me. I can't see a difference between this particular normal, and the okeetee I posted above. :(

Yeah! See??? Those links you posted could be pics of Indy's brothers - they look pretty similar.

Whatever he is, he's a cool snake. He's resumed his nonstop motion just like before. At least I won't have to worry about a lack of muscle tone.

If anyone else out there reads this thread, feel free to weigh in with your opinions on whether or not Indy is an Okeetee, a normal, a normatee, a manatee, a vanity, or Sean Hannitty. :nyah:
