Input Needed on Rack System Please

Corn-A-Holic
I'm checking into this custom built rack I found in the Classifieds. I have a Ball and 3 Corns. My largest corn is about 3 1/2 ft. and still growing. The rubbermaid containers are 24"L x 16 1/2"Wx 6"D...I thought it was a little small but the guy said he houses all his Balls in them and has sold many to people for Corns. He said you don't need hide boxes because the tubs give them the security. What do you all think of these measurements? Anyone have something similiar and how do you like it?

He said that the snakes don't need extra hides since the tub gives them security? I don't think that's right...I have a hatchling house in a Rubbermaid and she spends all her time hiding in one of her 4 hides. It may be because she is a hatchling and she's nervous and scared but still...I think you still need at least one hide in there for the snake's well being.

Well for the rack the measurments for the tubs are ok... I have built somthing that holds tubs simualur to those... how many tubs does the rack hold? and how much? you can build a rack that holds about 18 adult corns for about 10$ but then you have to cut and screw the boards together!
for the hide subject... I think that the adult corns would be fine without a hide... the darkness in the small enclosed tubs gives the security... but for the younger snakes you need to give them a hide... because they need to be consiled to feel safe...

Oh, are they the tinted tubs? Mine is the really really clear kind, almost like glass. If it's one of those translucent colored ones I guess they could hide in the substrate or something.

Thank you ...they are the fairly clear ones. I'm thinking I should try to make myself. They were $200.00 for 5 tubs. That was with the heat tape run through it all ready. I would like to find some larger tubs but I'm having a hard time. I would like to find some that can get some natural lighting in the front and be a little longer, say 30" and a little deeper 10" Any ideas where to find these?

that's way expensive if you have the time and energy to make one yourself. I bought a really nice baby rack with 12 small drawers for $75 at the MD show a few years back, and I'm planning on making my own larger one now.

Thank you all

I found some great Sterilite (like rubbermaid) boxes today. They are about 37"x 22" x 6". I would have liked them to be a little deeper, but the length makes up for it. Now to try my hand at carpentry hehe!

www.simplysnakes.com sells plans for melamine racks for $5. I plan to build some racks once I move into my new house. I'll be putting a window unit in the two car detached garage to monitor the temp and filling it with hordes of snakes. :D
