My anery corn things that I bought yesterday are a little strange looking. I didn't think anery corns were supposed to have red? Here are some pics of the belly of my female:

I suspect these may have some rat snake in them somewhere, but I don't know. You can see the full body pics of these in my other thread below. Here's the male's belly:

Since you just picked up the aneryths, wait and see how they look after they have shed for you. They possibly have picked up some coloration from their habitat in their prior home. I keep my corns on newspaper and sometimes, when they've splashed some water around, their bellies pick up some of the ink, mostly red. It doesn't seem to hurt them, and they go back to their normal coloration after a shed.

um i could be way of track here but that corn snake looks one hell off a lot like a hatchling grey rat snake - and has the correct colouration for one too, i hope i am wrong but i would check it out first with some one who knows first hand before you go growing it on.

Something about that snake tells me it's not a corn. The black on that snake is way too black (looks like the entire saddle is deep dark black with no borders). Background color is strange, and the head scales are strange too, that rostrum scale is way too big for a corn.

I'd check with the place you got it from and ask them, or if they don't know it'll just be more hunting I guess. It's a nice looking snake though, I wouldn't mind having one like that.

It almost looks like a young black rat, or even perhaps a fox snake.

Look for pictures on line with terms Black Rat, and Elaphe Obsoleta (btw, black rats get huge, 6 ft avg).

It does look like some kind of obsoleta, like this hatchling black rat.

Id bet it is a mix of rat corn. my upperkeys corn looks like that but lighter. IMHO

I think these two are mixes of something as well....they have some corn snake looking parts and rat snake looking parts. I got them for 8 bucks each, so I didn't lose much on the deal, and they are neat looking. I have a pair, and it will be interesting to see what happens when they are of breeding age. Maybe some of the mystery will unravel then, who knows? It gives me something to think about too. :) They're nice snakes, temper wise as well.
