Bubblegum

New member
Just like to say hi to all snake lovers! i guess i too am classed as a " newbie " on here, and a newbie to the world of corns. Bit of info...i have just got my first ever snake and decided to go for a corn as its the obvious beginners choice in every book and site ive read, its a bubblegum snow, born on the 12 aug '03 and he's about 15 " very bright eyed, lots of tongue flicking and good colouration too. Well, i picked him up just this monday dinner time, and, following lots of good advice, left him to his own devices to get used to his new home. ( Which is a 25 " L, 12 "w, 14 " h, Viv with a glass doored front, bark substrate with a heat mat and a bulb, log hide in the cool end, rock cave in the warmer end. Heat gradient being 85 in the warm, 72 in the cool, dropping about 5 degrees when the light goes out at both ends. a good amount of water available too...read lots of books and sites to try and get the best info..as lots conflicting). On day 2 ( yesterday ), i decided to try a small pinkie mouse, as the guy at the shop said he was due a feed ( gone about 6 days ). So i placed it in the opening to his log hide where he was curled up. I then sat and waited about an hour, when he finally came out and started to flick his tongue, smelling the prey, then eventually started to take it into his mouth, arse end first , but heck, he's learning too i guess lol.you may think im sad, but as its a new venture for me..i had got the camcorder out to film the feed..as i was amazed! And later showed my girlfriend the footage ( after her tea ) lol. Then i got up this morning, and found a shedded skin too, i then realised that this hobby is going to be a lot of fun, and i am so into this animal! its a great thing to be a part of. Sorry if i bored you all with this text but i just got so thrilled and excited. I always wondered what it would be like to keep a snake...so far its brilliant! Thanks for reading, Daz.

Congrats

Congratulations on the new snake.
Sounds like you will be providing him with a very nice home.
May I make one sugestion. You said you had bark substrate, right?
Well, just to be on the safe side you might want to feed your new little snake in a separate container. Just get a small deli dish or similar container, add a few holes in the lid and place the pinkie and snake in there for feeding.
Your snake can find the pinkie easier and the chance of ingesting substrate diminishes greatly.
Just a sugestion.
Enjoy your new snake and keep us posted.
you will need to post some pics!
