Hi all my corn snakes came out of brumation in the beginning August,i know peaple normally wait till the female has her post brumation shed but i have been putting here in the males cage every 3 days for the last week just incase he is interested but so far he has shown no interest in her is this normal?he is about 5 or 6 years i bought him as a adult so i don't know for shore,do you think he is too old or will he be interested when she sheds?she was in the blue two day's ago so she should shed soon.

Hello, I think you should wait until she is out of shed. Usually, right after the females sheds her skin they have a stonger more appealing scent to them and the males usually go nuts over that smell. Sometimes though, it might be that yr male/is possibly a female, or that he's just not going to be interested and she might not be interested in him. But I'd stop putting her in his cage until after she sheds and try again. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply my male is definatly a male and is a proven breeder, are your males normally only interested in females once they shed?.
I will stop putting them together till she sheds.

5 or 6 would be prime breeding ages for a male. Sounds like she just needs to give off the right signals - immediately after the shed would be perfect.

Try saving the shed skin in a sealed plastic bag and see if reintroducing them with the skin afterwards causes any excitement!

Age doesn't have much to do with how interested the male is. My 23 year old still goes nuts during the breeding season (not that I breed from him any more).

There are pairings which simply never work - one, other or both of the snakes will just decide that they're not interested. Doesn't happen often, but it has been known.

Well quess what the female just shed so i put the shed in the males cage and then put her in and he is going nuts over her!,chasing her all around the cage trying to pin her down i am so exited right now!! will update when they lock.

Hey Mac, my females normally shed around middle September and I have found that in general, my males are not really interested. Of course there are exceptions to any rule.
Congrats on the start of our breeding season, best of luck.

Thanks roladslf i don't know if they bred but when checked earlier the male had pined down and his tail was rapt around her's but i took her out now cause the male stopped chasing her and was just lying next two her,i will try them again tomorrow.

I think they bred that day but now they are not interested in eachother?does it help if the male sheds?i will try in a few days again.

I am starting to think that maybe my female is a male?she looks like a female has a tail like a female and was sold to me as a female but when my male slithers over her or next to her she does the jerking thing witch i thought only males do?that would explain why he is not that into her, when i put them together he only shows a bit of interest.

Two males together will exhibit that behaviour as well - it's a sign of aggression, designed to establish dominance.

If all you have to go on is that behaviour and a lack of eggs, then your "female" could well be either male or female.

When i bred my butters my female twitched as well as.the male. I always gave my corns a few days in between pairings so they could rest and destress from the "invasion". I also put them a completly separate tub to bred. I put my female.in first and let her settle (about 5 mins) then i put my male in. If i have a skin i put that in with the female so it "smells" up the tub.

You should check out my old postings from 2009! We had a GORGEOUS male Snow, as a one and only pet for over 5 yrs. Then I thought it would be cool to breed him, got him a gal... and SOON became apparent that "He" was a VERY VERY GRAVID SHE! we lost her that same year, but MAN was she HUGE! So, I can honestly say, mistake-sexing does happen! lol Good Luck either way!

Both "Whytsnake" and "Katchy" would jerk and zzzZZZZzz 100 miles an hour through the viv... (soon after this we figured out, THANK YOU CS.COM, that our FAT Male Snow was instead, a gravid female...) We than put "HER" with the only male we had bought "OB"... (thinking, at the time, that we already had one! lol)
