Cornelius just laid about a dozen slugs. We didn't put her with anyone. Her first eggs just hatched about 6 days ago. I thought that she would not go gravid or just absorb the eggs. Anyone else have other simular experiences, is this pretty normal, should I have put her together with a male, like what is better for her health????? Thanks Sam ~~~~~~:~

My female just laid her second clutch, all duds except one. Its pretty normal for them to lay slugs when they haven't been re-introduced to a male from what I have read and learned about.

I am going to put her with the male a second time next year, if she is going to lay a double clutch anyway, might as well make 'em fertile. :D

When I noticed Issy "plumping up" after her post laying shed I went ahead and put her with a male. Of course we had to try several, she's a very particular girl;) I figured if she's gonna lay eggs again all that work shouldn't go to waste. She laid 18 and 15 were good. I have another female that is going to lay a second clutch but I did not put her with a male. These girls that double clutch, arggggh, I wish they wouldn't.

I was told by my Vet that the effect on the body is the same. I asked because I wondered the same thing. Common sense told me that laying eggs is the same either way, but I wanted to hear it from someone else.

:D

Thanks guys ~~~~~:~

I was also trying to think common sense. And after a heavy sigh, thought well it had to be easier to pass slugs than eggs, as well as now not having to worry about 12 more babies and finding homes for them. The "clue" that she gave was that she wasn't eating and she was restless. So, I know for next time.

Meanwhile the other ladies are acting normal and their eggs are starting to hatch as of last night, so more babes are coming. Again thanks, Sam ~~~~~:~

Corns can retain sperm for quite some time. My Miami phase double clutched two years in a row w/o being with a male. This year, she laid 34 eggs (4 slugs) the first clutch and 15 eggs (6 slugs) the second clutch. I didn'y notice a pre-lay shed two weeks ago and, unfortunately, lost the entire second clutch.

Alicia: thanks...me too. It was frustrating to find them all shriveled and hard. But it was the first time I lost an entire clutch due to not knowing the snake was gravid.

The good news is that all 30 of the her first clutch hatched and are doing well. Most have already eaten. I've even identified about 6 keepers.
