Is my snake hurting himself?

Blue likes to reach to the top of his 10 gallon tank and slide himself between the rim of the tank and the screen cover. I have cover clips and books keeping him from escaping, but he still tries to. He can only see out of the middle 1/3 of the screen where the books aren't covering, and will try to push himself through the holes in the screen. He does it really hard and sometimes pushes himself off of the rim, so he'll fall straight to the ground. It's only a standard 10 gallon aquarium and isn't very high, but sometimes he'll hit his rock hide or his water dish. I'm wondering if his pushing and rubbing can hurt his nose, or if the falling is hurting him. Does anyone else's do this?

A 10" fall shouldn't hurt him, but many have rubbed their noses raw. Bottom line is, many a corn will spend a lot of their time trying to escape the enclosure. When you upgrade to a larger cage, a 20 long Critter Cage is a good choice with a sliding, locking lid and no real ledge to climb.

I was worried he might scrape his nose. Some guy at the pet store said he was probably trying to shed. But since Blue was only doing it where he could see out, I figured it was an escape attempt. Haha but I just bought a small rack from Reptile Basics, where I don't think there is any place for him to rub his nose raw. Thanks for the reply!

Mine have fallen from the tops of their vivs plenty of times, none have ever gotten hurt. I never had a nose rubber on the screen though, I'd be concerned too about them possibly rubbing a little raw spot.

I had one that would rub her nose on the screen really hard and scrape the scales off. I would just get her out for a little while and then put her back and she would stop. You could try putting a towel or something over the top so your snake can't see out the anymore.

All my snakes are now in bins so they don't have any problems like that anymore.

The falling shouldn't hurt him at all.

Wow I feel dumb not thinking of the towel! Haha good idea, I'll try that until the rack comes and he goes in his bin. Thanks :D

My black rat does those little leap of faiths from the rim. She's pretty hefty so all of a sudden we'll hear a little thud and know exactly what it was. Never seems to bother her though, WingedSweetheart gave good advice, get the snake out a few minutes to sate his curiosity and cover with a towel.
