Is my Snake Sleeping?

I know that my corn snake is nocturnal. He doesn't have eyelids. So how can I tell when he is sleeping?

Generally when Tucson is sleeping he's in his hide, although he does like to sprawl out a lot. Chances are if your snake is not actively doing something, he's sleeping. Technically they do have an eyelid - it's commonly called a 3rd eyelid and is a clear membrane that slides over the eye.

yeah, there is no third eye lid.. you can tell snake is sleeping if you an get them to sleep out in the open close to the glass ( not a easy task lol ) but if your snake will do this and I have seen mine do it, yiy c actually see that their actual pueple will slightly hang down Ward.. almost like they have lazy eyes.. lol

its pretty cute, but almost impossible to chatch them in the act! and as soon as you move to much infont of them their pueple shoots back up and you can tell that their awake.

I've caught some of mine sleeping, and their eyes do roll up (or down) like a human's. This is my ultramel sleeping, she woke up not long after and the eye rolled back in place:

I always figured they were light sleepers since they have no eyelids, so turning on the light and standing inches away from their face should wake them up, but apparently not :p

daweee! ^^^^

That's the cutest photo I have ever seen.. you can clearly see her little eye rolling back!
But i'm glad you actually got a photo of it! I have seen Sirius do it 3 times, but I never have my phone handy..:( lol

and I know what you mean about them not being as easy to wake as you thought! I thought that just me standing in front of him would wake him but he didn't move at all.. just kept snoozing. :p

Thanks for sharing the photo!

Ugh,,,,that makes me feel so much better about my corn who sleeps outside. I thought he was getting sick with that downward eye.
