Is my snake small???

OK, well I've seen all these people with huge snakes. (The girth) and I was wondering if my snake is small, its about 31 inches long, about 1.5 inches around. (at her biggest part) this ones almost 2.5 years old... maybe a little less...

Then I have 2 little snakes, only about 18 inches. but a little less than an inch around... Is this normal??? should they be fed a little more??? Or more often??? They were born in July... :D

I don't think there's anything wrong with a smaller corn. I'm not saying that the Munson plan is "wrong", but not growing your snakes as fast as Dean does does not mean that they are not healthy.

I know, but it feels like it's taking forever and they're not growing... but then I look at pics when I first got them, and now...

THEY'RE GROWING!!! Still, I like big snakes better for some reason...

Enjoy them while they are small! :)

If you want to see just how fast they grow, buy a scale and weigh them every week. Then you will really see a difference.

There is no average. Snakes grow at different rates depending on food size, how much exercise they get and external factors like viv temp and stress.

But at least with a scale you can see the growth even if you can't see it by looking at the snake.

OK, sweet, I will look at getting one of those.

Exercise will make it grow faster? Wow... OK, what do you suggest I do for exercise? do I just hold him or let him slide through my hands?

Thanks

I agree 100%. Even feeding on the conservative end of the plan's ranges, a female corn would easily acheive breeding size within three years, especially if you didn't brumate her for her first two winters. If you didn't intend to breed, there'd be no reason not to take it easy and maybe even feed less aggressively than the plan's least aggressive guidelines. I actually try to limit the size of my males. Since they're not going to carry eggs, there's no reason for them to hit 400g in a hurry.

Thanks for the backup Dean. I've been seeing a lot of "Munson plan is the word of the bible" latley. Although you do grow your snakes up amazingly fast it's nice for people to know that's not the only way to do it.

I suppose it sure is nice to see a few of those cutting edge morphs grow up quickly though!

The reason I like bigger snakes, is because my hands sweat a lot. And it's easier to handle bigger snakes than it is to handle bigger ones...

So yeah... Thanks for all the information. :dancer:
