Is she/he pregnant???

OK well I was holding one of my snakes and just letting it glide through my fingers, when I thought I felt a few lumps. . . so I put two fingers under it, and my thumb on top about 2 inches from the head, and once it Slithered to where my fingers were a little more than half (maybe half) way down it, I felt one lump, (maybe 2 inches long) then about half an inch later, another, then another, and another! It hasn't eaten in about a week and a half so i know its not food. (Besides theres a stool in the cage) so could he/she be pregnant??

What really confuses me is that I went to an Expo in July of 07, and I had one of the breeders probe him, he said it was a guy, but the last time I checked, guys cant have babies! So should I worry about her/him? It's about 3 years old, give or take a few months. I haven't introduced another snake to it, so I know it's not fertile.

Should I take it to the vet? Just to make sure its not serious?

If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it, thanks

I would say it could just be left over food if you had him probed. Maybe you can take him to a petstore where they sell reptiles and have them tell you what the gender is again. Always good to have a second opinion. Maybe you can post pics of him with his tail on here. A lot of good experince corn snake keeps can tell(not a 100%) the sex by the tail. Hope this helps...

Oh...I forgot to ask...How long have you had him? Sometimes, pet stores house snakes together and if he is a she...than it is a good posibility she is gravid.

I got him when he was less then a year old, and the people I bought him from said he was a girl, based on the temp he was incubated in. . . well they were wrong. . . I think.

And as for the leftover food opinion, I fed him a little more than a week and a half ago (waiting on more food from TMF) and there is a new stool (about 6-7 days old) Besides these lumps are to big, and there is to many to = the amount of food he gets.

And about halfway through the last paragraph, I realized that the camera is right next to me, so im going to take a few pics and put them on here within about 10 min.

Thanks for your concern.

Well When I got him he was in a cage with about 3 other So called females. Then I took him home and all the way since November hes been with a female, who was probed by the same person at the Expo. But she is like 5 inches shorter than him. . . but fat. . . Could they have mated and the he/she held on to the sperm? Because if this is true, that will throw my breeding plans for next year WAY outa wack. . .

Oh and a PS note, he has been moving all over the cage for about a week, should I put a humid box in just in case? If these are eggs, wouldn't this be really late?

IM going to put pics of his/her tail in the next post.

Thanks

Heres a few quick pics, im sorry it took so long and that they're fuzzy. . .

heres where it ends. . .

So were you hoping 'he' would breed with the female by cohabitating them? How much does 'he' weigh, because 'he' looks quite thin to be carrying eggs in those pictures.

im not sure how much he weighs, but he is bigger then he looks.

And No I wasn't hoping for them to breed when cohabitating them. I just didn't have the money to buy a new cage. But for my 15th b- day I got 3 brand new cages. . . :D so in November they were separated. Could he/she have bred and waited this long to let the sperm fertilize the eggs?

I'm by no means an expert in this, and it's a little hard to tell from the pics, but it looks like a boy to me. If you can afford it, I'd take him to a vet, and maybe get an xray. Do you know of any exotics vets in your area? A lot of times the vet will probe them for you. :)

I am not sure but I think that is a long time to hold in sperm. I am hoping that she is not gravid because she/he is way thin. I would really just take him to a local reptile pet store(if you have any) and ask them if it's a she or a he or even if she is gravid. In the mean time, wait for him/her to shed. When was the last time she shed?

I can't offer a lot in this thread due to lack of experience with this sort of thing, but go to your local petstore (not a chain petstore) and talk to whoever has the most experience with snakes. They may be able to hold her and give you a more accurate description of if 'he's' gravid. I know that at my local shop there's this guy named Dave who is crazy about snakes. He's extremley knowledgeable about these sorts of things. See if you can find a guy like this at your local shop.

It has not been proven that you can determine the sex of what will hatch by adjusting temps. If that were true most of us would use the temps to our advantage and get more females.

Sperm can be held for weeks, months and even a year. So it is possible that it has held it until it ovulated. I agree that the snake is a bit thin which concerns me that if it is gravid it may become egg bound.

There could be other things happening such as parasites. I would NOT take that snake to a pet store for any thing. Take it to a vet and have it checked.

If that snake really is a male, my next concern would be the female you cohoused it with. She may actually be holding sperm from this one and become gravid herself. If she is the same size as him that would worry me.

I would just make an appointment. If she is gravid; than she would shed first(most of the time) 2 weeks(give or take) before she lays. I am not expert, but when I looked at the photos you got up...he looks like a he. Like i said, I'm not an expert. I think the best thing for you to do is to take it to the vet. Make sure the vet is experince with reptiles...if not, you're wasting your time.

I can't add much as I'm really not getting all you're saying: When did you get these snakes, how old were they when you got them? You've kind of circled the answers. There is no way that snake is big enough to be laying eggs, unless you are a giant, compared to your hand that snake looks to be an '07. I'm not saying it isn't gravid, but it should never have been expsed to a male to get in ths situation. As Bek said incubation temp has never been proven as effective with sexing snakes, geckos yes (even that is not fool proof).

I will call around to find an experienced vet in the area, thank you all for your concern.

I got my snakes in August of 05 at the Lizard King Reptiles, and he was about 1 foot to a foot and a half long when I got him.
For some reason my mom only gets the mice when I'm NOT in the car so his food is about half what it should be. AND my mom says that I shouldn't "power feed" my snakes to have them get bigger. She said that because I was feeding them once every 5-6 days... Now she forced me to feed them every 7-8 days, or I will run out of food, and they would go almost 2 weeks at a time without food.

On a side note, I was wondering where I could find a link to the Feeding plan thing people talk about on here. . . I know I've seen links, I just don't know the name to search with. So if someone could give me that so I could show my mom, I would really appreciate it.

-Thanks

Thank you very much this should help.

I went to this camp thing and got back earlier today, and after looking over my snake, it feels like they are a lot smaller. I thought they were gone at first. I have set up and appointment for Tuesday, and I hope he is ok.

Thank you all for your concern.
