i have been taking my yearling cornsnake out of his viv at night times to hold him for a little while but after hes been out for about ten minutes and i put him down on the bed he just stays still and when i stroke him he doesnt try to move away or anything ive noticed this behaviour twice but i dont know if i should be worried or not i know there is nothing wrong with him because he is very active and never refuses to eat but i was just wondering if anyone else saw there snake do this as my partner says that he must just feel safe and relaxed when ive got him out and has no need to try and get away fast. any input would be good thanx.

Mary,

I would guess that this behavior is the opposite of what you think. He's not relaxed but rather a little stressed out. Snakes don't enjoy us handling them but intead tolerate us. If I were to guess what he's thinking sitting there out in the open it would go something like this, "I am a statue. They do not see me. I will not be eaten." ;)

It's a kind of Corn Snake mantra if you will.

Cheers,
Jason
