Hey this is a question to anybody who could possibly have an answer. Im new to the whole corn snake thing however i have done research for about a year before the purchase of my corn snake about a month ago. He is about 4 months old and he is an albino or amelanistic corn snake. Although i have had him for a month, he still seems to be nervous when it comes to handling. He often skurries away when i try to remove him from his viv however when he is in my hands he moves comfortably. I even noticed him twitching when i touch him at times to try to get him to come in my hands. Now im far from an expert however ive read that corn snakes often get used to handling after a couple of weeks. BUT ITS BEEN A MONTH and he still exibits this behavior and i dont want him to become older and bigger and later develope aggressive behavior when i try to take him out. CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME? P.S. I take him out once a day and lately ive been taking him out twice and even keeping him out longer.

First of all..thanks for doing a year long research. I'll give you a rep point for that one. (ask latter).

Just keep on doing what your doing. so take a little longer than others.
Also. do you have other pets which the scent might be still on you.
Sometime it help just to wash your hands each time you handle your snake.
But it's more likely it need more time with you.

You're doing fine! Remember that in nature, lots of things eat little snakes. Your baby's just following instincts in scurrying away. If he's calm in your hands, all is well. Welcome to the forum, by the way. Keep up the good work, and don't worry; your baby will calm down in the viv as he gets bigger.

I've had my babies since the middle of August and they are still flighty, even once I've picked them up. Partially it is because they are hatchlings, and at 15g each they could be a snack for pretty much anything, and partially it is because they are just not used to being handled. I feed them every 5-6days, and then two days for digesting, and then I work a couple 12hr days, so that leaves me maybe two days a week to hold them. As they get bigger they hopefully calm down--as long as they are eating and growing I'm not concerned!

OK Thanks! And no i dont have any other pets just "Neon" and i keep bottles of sanitizer in his cubbard so i remind myself to use it before and after i handle him. Thanks Again everybody!!!

Maybe try washing your hands with soap and water first, and rinsing really well. Hand sanitizer is strong smelling and sticky.

Snakes just twitch, some more than others. They twitch when they are touched by other snakes, too.

If he hasn't tried to bite yet, he probably never will- I wouldn't worry about that. Try spending some time cuddling him to you instead of holding him like a piece of string- that's very calming for babies.

In 2006 I hatched out a granite male. This character was a real hateling. He would strike his head against the cage if I so much as entered the room he wanted to bite me so bad!! I had him for sale at one point, but he was so mean he scared away anyone who was interested in him.

I decided to keep him and named him "Syko". I only handled him at cage cleaning time, and only with gloves. Sometime after he turned 6 months old, he decided to become a sweetheart! He is now one of my gentlest sweetest snakes :)

Okay thanks again everybody. he seems to be a little more calm now because hes even in the front of the viv now. but i think thats because i added some leaves to his trees and he may feel more secure lol. But nevertheless ill keep you all posted!

glad hes acting a little better now. like everyones been saying, hold him closer and give him time to calm down
