(Is this the place for a rant?) Pick-a-size paper towels what a joke!

First off, I keep my snakes on paper towel.

I do this, because I can feed them in their bins, I dont have to worry about them getting wood splinters in there eyes, or between there scales, or impacting them in their hemipenes. I don't have to worry about bringing bugs in wood mites etc, I can monitor the feces, and best of all I can change it every week, and not worry about missing anything.
This has worked for me for 11 years. But now they are changing paper towels and everything seems to be going to this craptacular pick a size nonsense. I mean really, has ANYONE ever spilled anything and thought, "Huh, if I only had a half of a sheet of paper towel!" Am I the ONLY person in America that sees this as the companies way of downsizing their product? GRRRR!!

By the way, has anyone ever noticed the difference between paper towels from competing chain stores, besides me?

Thanks for listening.

I hear this rant quite often from my mother! Occasionally I've found the half size paper towel useful but not very often.

I like the small pick-a-size thing (if the price is not jacked up), because really I could use just a bit of paper towel for some clean ups....but usually I just buy the wal mart brand 3 packs or regular for like $1.50 or whatever it is.

I love those paper towels! Need to make a sandwich? Perfect! Folded in half in sandwich containers for hatches, awesome!

Each small child wants raisins? Great!

I hate normal size paper towels, and I buy the Bounty select a size ones.

Don't hate on my paper towels!

They're sensitive!

I tried to buy mid-range instead of expensive paper towels _just_ for drying wet mice on. I ended up using WAY more than I would have. I like Viva. Everything else sucks.

I had the hatchlings on paper towel (Viva) till their first sheds. I didn't like it. If an end got into the water bowl, it would suck the water bowl dry, soaking the whole shoebox.

I'm not all that thrilled with CareFresh, either.

I am not a fan of carefresh either. Yes, paper towels will suck the water bowl dry, but if you check on them often enough, it should not be a big problem.
I've used Viva, but most of the Viva I have seen these days is pick a size (or whatever they call it.) Viva was a good brand. I do not care for Brawny or Bounty. I usually use whatever I find that is NOT a pick a size. Generally this is Sparkle. There is a BIG difference in paper towels, between chain stores, though. For instance Sparkle brand paper towels from Walmart are smaller and thinner then Target's Sparkle paper towels. So I usually buy them from Target.

I love select-a-size paper towels. The smaller sheet is almost the exact size for my hatchling tubs, I only have to fold over one end as they are slightly too long. I'm so glad I don't have to spend time cutting and/or folding huge paper towels to fit small tubs.

I had one of my snakes in a shoe box on paper towel, this was the garter with the eye infection & I was trying to keep it as sterile as possible, especially after the dead eye came out. The paper towel worked well with her & the pick your size was useful there, but I was changing it out about every 4 to 5 days.
I absolutely HATE Care Fresh! Finally used up the last of it I had & now everyone is back on Aspen. The Care Fresh straight out of the bag to me stinks a hundred times worse than the snakes poo.

LOL

I know what you mean so a long time ago I had to search for the store that sell the best paper towel and full size.I pay a dollar a roll on sale but they are worth imo. I agree with you on everything you stated about using paper towels, one thing you didnt mention is snakes have one working Lung which means using aspen no matter how well you shake it out is very dusty which the snakes have to be inhaling. Which I would imagine isnt the greatest thing for them. Just my 2 cents....LOL

I, too, love the pick a size paper towels. PERFECT size for my hatchling shoeboxes, 2 are pretty close to the next size up tub, and then they're on aspen. It also helps cut down on usage at my house since my husband seems to take at least 2 towels regardless of the size (o:

The thing I noticed the other day that annoyed me was toilet paper...one pack said "12 double rolls, same size as 24 rolls." another said "12 double rolls, same as 36 regular rolls". what?? how does that work? it's like they give you a little extra and try to make you think you're getting such a great deal at double the price!

No matter how often I check, there are a few of my hatchlings that manage to drain the water bowls and make a swamp. I keep all hatchlings on paper towels, but maybe I need to think of something else.

Generally speaking one full size sheet equals two of the half size or pick a size sheets. So what you are saying is that you give your hatchlings 1 sheet of half sized paper towel, in a shoe box? That's not much substrate? I could understand in a deli cup folded over but even then ones still not much bedding.
