Is UV Lighting Safe for an Amelanistic [albino]?

People say that they could even live under the light and warmth of a flourescent lightbulb. Also, Amber is albino and I think it might be harmful for her. On the other hand, the pet store owners use UV [UVB I think] lights and suggest that I should use them. Is that true? I don't always listen to them however...

Don't listen to the petstores, more likely than not they have no idea what they're talking about.

Corns are crepuscular or nocturnal (there's a thread on that ). Either way, they are probably out when the sun is at least beginning to go down, so they wouldn't have direct heating. They'd rely on sun warmed objects for their heat, for example, a rock. But don't use hot rocks, either. Get a UTH, like a pad, or a heat cable. They're better off with those than a light, anyway.

I'm not sure if it would damage the snake in any way, but they're not like lizards or tortoises, and they don't need the UV for Vitamin D and stuff.

Since they're not baskers by nature (they aren't usually active during the day), corn snakes do not need UV lamps. Most fluorescent bulbs do not give off enough heat to warm the warm end of a corn's enclosure anyway. Under-tank-heaters (UTH) are recommended. In the wild, corns find sources of belly heat to thermoregulate.

As Roy said, corns are not baskers, however I do have a low wattage moonlight lamp that just provides a bit of heat at the top of the aquarium and she curls up on her vine under the light and likes to just hang out and it seems like she is basking. When she gets ho enough she just leaves. I also have a UTH and she uses it as well. As far as UV light. I wouldn't suggest it. Usually those lights are so bright that the snakes actually avoid them. And if you try the infared, most of the time they get really hot, so that is why I suggest using moonlights. I also like it because instead of having to turn the light on to look at her, which she usually hides from, I can see her fine with the moon light.

Where do you get the moonlights? Is it like the black lights? I've heard mixed things about using black lights with snakes.

It is not a black light. Exo-terra made mine and it is called night-glo. I really like the one I have because it is a low wattage, my snake really loves it. I can attach a picture if you need it, but I'm not sure how to attach pictures, I have never attached a picture and have never needed to search for it in the archives. But many pet stores carry these lights.

I'll have to try that then. My corn doesn't seem to like the bright light too much, but at the same time, I want to be able to see him.
