Izzy says, 'Don't Mess With Me, Mom!'

SNOW!!!!
Like the title says, my normally docile Izzy was in a really bad mood the other day (I think this was the Thursday before Thanksgiving). A REALLY bad mood...

I went to feed her and she struck at her rat, but changed trajectory in mid-strike and came after my hand. The teeth weren't really painful (this isn't my first boa bite), but she hits like a freight train!! Holy crap!!! I ended up with big bruises at both bite sites...the upper jaw bite site was worse (the one by my pointer finger) than where her lower jaw grabbed on...unfortunately I'm left handed and had to work the next day, and my pen was sitting right where I was bruised...it was a long day...

This is the bite about 20 minutes later after it finally stopped bleeding:

It was pretty painful to move my pointer finger...haha.

And Izzy after...she was so ticked off that she refused to eat until the next morning (I removed her rat and fed her before I left for work the next day). She was in her tub hissing for at least 2 hours after the bite, even though I was on the other side of the room. Crazy snake...

Apparently she thought she was a cobra:

The red eye makes her look even more ticked off and evil:

Back in her tub after playing 'cobra':

And no, no alcohol was taken internally post-bite. This happened around 2:30am after feeding all the other snakes (you can see some of the tubs still stacked on the floor behind her) and I had to be at work at 8.

WO. Thats one very upset little snakie..
Gotta love it when they are still crabbin' (hissing) even when you are done with them and are on the other side of the room..
sounds like my little Hoggie brat!..

Haha..
Nice bloody bite shot though.

My hoggie does that too. I've nicknamed him 'Vader' because he goes in his tube and hisses, so it is amplified a little bit and makes him sound like Darth Vader breathing!

She disapproves of your flavor.

Also, I have a snake named Izzy too. :)

I think she does!

Really? Cool! Her full name is actually Isabella, but I just call her Izzy. :)

that is deff a pose that we are used to with our central American boa when hes shedding (a true PMS moment lol :p) we cant even open the tub when hes that pissed. My bf has been bitten by him but im smart enough to not open the tub then...(or just too plain scared lol :D)

Wow, ouch! Glad she didn't do more damage. But now she has the taste for blood! Well, human blood. Apparently she doesn't like it, though. xD

Love her "cobra" shots! Silly snakes are silly. Gotta love 'em, though! :}

Nice pics! You should make an embarrassing LOLsnake out of it and hang it on her viv to teach her a lesson.

All of my boas are pretty relaxed...other than my ATB, she's what I loving call a 'face biter'. Most ATBs are grumpy though...

All four of my BCIs and my BCO (this girl) are all generally very well behaved. This was the first time I've heard Izzy hiss, and I've only heard one of the other hiss.

Luckily she didn't decide to hang on! It was a pretty quick strike and release.

I couldn't believe she was doing the 'cobra', it was really cute (even with the hissing). I do love them, especially the boas (shhhh, don't tell the others). :)

It's still my favorite that our first instinct is to grab a camera post-bite rather than a band-aid. That looks like one ticked off snake! :)

Yep, we're a crazy bunch! My camera stays right near the snakes for that reason. :D Plus I like to take lots of shots of the kiddos doing cute things.

I want an Izzy!

Trent and I will hopefully have little baby Izzy/Iggy snakes in 2 years...

Now that is one pissed off snake! Bad Izzy! Those are some great bite club photos! She got you good!

One thing I hate about bites, is the post-bite itching...

I want an Izzy!

Yeah, you would! LOL Has Doc gotten you good yet? But she is beautiful, and the cobra-pose is funny as anything, so I understand it.

Great bite pictures! I had this conversation at the hospital today:

"Aren't you scared your snakes will bite you?"
"No, are you scared of a needlestick with an unused needle? Corn snake bites hurt less than needlesticks, and they can't give me HIV or hepatitis so it doesn't worry me at all!"

I didn't get into the whole take-a-picture-of-the-bite thing. I'm doing my part to eliminate fear of snakes! :)

I don't get the itching from the boa bites...but corn and king bites itch like crazy!!

Yeah David...a bite from Doc is nothing compared to a bite from a boa (although they don't really hurt when they are this size...not looking forward to taking a bite from a fully grown female)!! Think about that... :)

Thanks! I love the cobra pose! I almost couldn't get good pictures of it because I was laughing too hard and I couldn't keep the camera still!!!

Interesting conversation...never really thought of it that way....you're right though, even a bite like this (other than the extreme force she hit me with) hurts less than getting a shot or an IV.

:roflmao:
Aww, she looks like such a sweetie!!!

I know, don't you just want to give her a great big smooch!?

haha, love the last few photos! That is drama-queen of a boa you have there.

:) She really was being a D.Q.!! The best part was that she wouldn't shut up even after I put her tub back on the rack and left her alone...I thought for sure that she'd settle after 5 or 10 minutes...boy was I wrong!!
