Im not sure if this is in the right location, so if it is i do apologize. Okay i am going to be purchasing a pair of Jackson county, AL corns. I live in Virginia, what i am wondering is would it be legal for me to sell the off spring here in Va? I have been dealing with snake for quit some time, but my first attempt at breeding local corns. Any info would be appreciated, also links to where i could find the answer would be appreciated also.:dancer:

She is from Pike county, AL (found her about 6 weeks ago).... She laid eggs last week so I am excitied to see what the babies are going to look like.

I found this" The DGIF is now issuing permits to licensed pet stores and captive breeders for them to sell three species of captive-bred snakes (4 VAC 15-360-50): eastern kingsnake, mole kingsnake, and corn snake. No other snakes native to Virginia can be bought or sold in Virginia, and there are size limits as to what can be sold."

good luck

Alabama corns are just lovely! I know Walter was breeding them (I have one of his babies from a WC mama), but I don't know if he still is. Mine is coloring up to be a lot like Buzzard's...dark green/gray/brown background with burnt orange saddles.

Best of luck with your new venture! Hopefully you'll keep us updated (both of you!). I'd love to see what you hatch out. :)

That was excellent info. i just didnt think of to look at inland fishiries. Thanks, and thats a beautyful snake...

Thank gang, she has been a real sweet snake. Found her at my shed door. I raise rats and mice in my shed. She had a few rough spots on her when I got her, but now thats she has shed (after laying eggs) They seem to be going away.

2 clutches hatched out and are doing great........ AC's(Alabama Corn) eggs are in the incubator with a late August hatch time.... You guys coming by tomorrow for some mice? You need to see the Hypos that hatched they are so cute.

FYI, the VA laws are somewhat odd. Basically since Corns are native to VA, you must have a permit to propagate and sell them. The permit is $10 a year, and it's all you need. Here's a link to the form:

The size restrictions are a little tricky. Basically, you cannot buy an adult corn (over 18") wholesale. This is meant to keep people from buying wild caught adults and reselling them. You CAN sell adult corns, provided you obtained them legally....meaning you bought them under 18" or hatched them and raised them yourself.

You can BUY an adult corn (breeding stock etc), you just can't turn around and resell it.

This is a BAUTEEFULLL Corn....

These are few and far between in Florida. I may have to get a Bama corn from one of you kats.

Thanks, yea i read up on the permit. The price on it isnt bad at all, as you can sell a baby for about double the price. Their not here yet, my buddy is bringing them up next month and then i will be preparing the female for next season. Their both beautyful snakes, and cant wait to breed some locality snakes.
