Hello all,

Ive had my female Okeetee now for about 5 month. She is about 6 month old she eats fine sheds fine but she wont stay in me hand. every time i pick her up she constantly freaks out and tries to dart and jump out of my hand. I have been trying to get her used to handling since I got her but she wont mellow out.
All comments, suggestions and idea's are welcome!

Arrrrrr...you don't say do ya.

I've had a couple that seem mellow one moment and the next moment they try to rocket out of my hand. The first thing I try to do is just keep moving my hands one in front of the other as they go so they always have somewhere to go and feel like they're getting somewhere. Sometimes they are just moving way to fast for that. Those times I just try to grasp their body firmly but gently. Let her know she can't get away, but don't crush her. Usually, after a few moments they will calm down and be more relaxed. If she starts to freak again just do the same thing again. Hopefully, she'll start to calm down more over time.

[Broken record] Corns generally don't sit there curled around your hand like a ball python will. They pick a direction and make a break for it. Especially the young ones [/Broken record]

Good thing is, once they're big enough, they can make a lunge for anywhere and it won't matter because you'll still have 2 and a half foot of snake held tightly!
