Jungle corns

Hey I was doing some reading up on whether I could cross my cali king snake with a female corn one day and I was told that it is possible and that they make babies called Jungle Corns. Is this true? if so I would guess it would be pretty dangerous to put a corn with a king. Also if it is possible what kind of market value do they have? Thanks.

Sterling.

Probably less market value than either of the pure species. And yes, your king will likely try to eat your corn. You can introduce a female cal king in a container and get your male in the mood, then add the corn and see... I've also heard of people taping the king's mouth shut. Or you could just get female king snake and offer him what he wants to breed.

I was under the impression that in order to hybridize a cal king and a corn, you'd have to have both sexes of each snake.. I was told, for example, if I had a male king snake that I wanted to breed to a corn snake, I would need a female king snake to get the male in the mood, then switch females at the last minutes. Not sure though.

I've produced some really nice Jungle Brook Korns (cal-king x brooks king x corn) in the past that sold for way more than the species that were combined to make them. Selling hybrids if definitely a select market but to the right person some are worth their weight in gold so to speak. I've spent tons on money on hybrids and know others that have done the same. It's just what each person values the animal at and is willing to pay for them.

Ali i heard the same thing. I have a male sinoloan milksnake and a local reptile store begging for some milk/corn babies. I put him in with my female corm and he just wasn't intetested. I read that you need a teaser female of the same type to get him ummm eager? then do a quick switcheroo and hope he doesn't notice! Seemed like way too much hassle to make hybrids when you have nice pairs of the same type already! But i do love the bright colours and variety you get with hybrids.

I like hybrids too, but my king is a boy and I really don't want to play the king snake game more than I have to lol.
I figure if I feel like I *neeeeeeeed* a hybrid, I'll just buy one that I like :)

How did you go about breeding them without the other getting eaten?

Very carefully. :) Most people use the "bait and switch method" to make hybrids where you have a male excited by a female of his species and then you swap females on him at the last second. I've got a few other techniques that are much more successful but I can't reveal all my secrets.

Whoa, he is super cool, and I'm not much of a hybrid person. What's the price range for a fellow like that?

Interesting. I had no idea high level hybrid markets were even in existence. And you might say I keep up with colubrid markets, and am known to invest when I find what I want.

Surely at least a price worth pairing one snake with another species that wants to eat the other. A thousand or so, I bet ya.
I believe I sold that guy for around $100 since he was het for snow stripe.

Oh, a hundred bucks. How neat is that.

What is the draw? What are you hoping to produce that exceeds a zillion other freaking 100 dollar corn combos that would be WAY easier to sell? What do you expect happens to your "waste?" Do you kill every unsold baby yourself? Do you not think some of it winds up in the king AND corn gene pool? Again, I don't mind you doing it as long as everything known is revealed -every single pairing I have is equally artificial selection. But why breed animals that don't even want to? In which one would literally kill and eat the other every chance it got? Unless you have a target, why do that?

That is funny Chip I am looking through this thread and I cant find anywhere that its says any of the unsold babies are to be killed. Is it that hard to think that maybe they could be kept as PETS??? Quote where it says that they are to be killed and I will forget that I ever questioned you.

What is with all this desire to kill a baby off simply because it is a hybrid? Many like hybrids and have no desire to kill them. Do you kill your unsold babies Chip?

She is a beauty. I love the yellow in this one even though I'm more of a fan of those corndurans. Still, if you could get this one to cross with a cornduran, now that would be amazingly beautiful I imagine.
