Krazy About Snakes
Hi,

My name is Robert and I have owned my first corn snake for just under a week now. She is a sweet pink corn named Blondie. I have tried to set her up nicely and make her happy since she is going to be with me for quite some time.

She is in a 20L aquarium with a sturdy top, a hiding spot in each side of the tank, both hot and cold. She has a silk plant the she sometimes likes to climb and hide in. She has a good deep water dish that I fill daily with spring water.

It's the lighting and heat that is giving me the trouble. I just can't seem to get it regulated. That will change, I hope, when my thermostat with night drop comes either tomorrow or Monday.

I have 2 of Kathy Love's books on the way, one by Jerry Walls, and one on Morphs and breeding. I want to learn all I can... after all she deserves it.

I've wanted a snake as a pet for 35 years now. I guess you are never too old to get what you deserve and want. :grin01:

Hi Robert,

Welcome to the Forum and to the addiction!

You had to wait 35 years!!! That is indeed a long long long time!!! It certainly beats my couple of year of waiting and few months hard work on my husband to get him to say yes...lol
I am glad you finally made it to have a scally friend like us :) (the snake is scally, not us... just thought I'd specify... LOL)

There is a lot of very nice people here with a lot of good advice and remember: "there are no stupid questions if you don't know the answers" so if you have a question….
Also, it might already have been asked/answered and there is a search option which is very handy. ;)

Also, when I first joined the Forum, I was given two very handy/interesting url ( Lennycorn  hehe, I have done it again ) and it is now my turn to pass them on plus a couple that I personally find good:

Here are also some websites which was recommended to me and some that I have myself found interesting and with good advice:

Also, here are some discussions about cohabitation so that you can make your mind up but be prepared as the last one is very graphic:

With regards to books, these are the ones that I heard the most about:
- "Corn Snakes : The Comprehensive Owner's Guide" by Kathy Love
- "The Art of Keeping Snakes" by Philippe De Vosjoli

I have the second book and really enjoyed reading it but I also will be getting the first one as the other one I bought was not as instructive as I wanted.
Kathy Love is recommended a lot in this forum.

The best thing to do about your concern regarding the lighting and the heating is to tell us how you have set the tank, if you use a Lamp as a heat source or a UTH (Under the Tank Heater), what is temperature on the warm and cool side, etc... What would be even better is a photo.... well, we also LOVE photos of other people's snakes... hint hint, nudge nudge, wink wink... ;)

Again, welcome!
