Kastanie Snow

Another one for Dr. Diaz.

Jim,

You are killing me......:dancer:.

I wanted to share something with you. On the recent brood produced in a collaboration efforts between John-Zorro and myself, the following was noticed...

Two corn snakes that came out looking Snow-like after their first shed have colored up with lots of Orange/peachy color in the proximal one third..... which is typical of the Mandarin blood (Amel + diffused + Kastanie) and Mandarin (Amel + Kastanie) corn snakes. I guess we have to wait a few more sheds to be able to tell the difference.

There is so much potential with the Kastanie gene but sometimes...I am as confused as everyone else about them.

Here are some pics of the corn snake in question - Mandarin Blood??? and/or Avalanche Kastanie???

Anyway, thanks for the update....

Orlando

The Kastanie gene is not for the color-blind! Haha. I can see it on some morphs, but with the snow...it's tough. Although I might not see the effects of the gene, I do know that's a great looking snow!!

All I gotta say is that I am VERY happy that I have been able to acquire a few Kastanie and het Kastanie animals in the last few years. Seeing all of the amazing combos that come from them makes me more excited to be working with them.

Both snakes are GORGEOUS! Keep it up gentlemen!

That sure is a very cool color. I like that a lot. I look forward to seeing it grow.

I have another from the clutch that is giving me a fit feeding, but I think I have it going in the right direction. There is a sibling snow from this clutch. I will post a puc of it shortly. The pairing was normal het lava, snow, and kastanie x the same. Orlando will be the new owner of this as well as a lava mandarin from the same clutch.

Jim,
Thanks for the picture! Early today I took a picture of a nice Avalanche produced here for comparison to the one I posted. Since the snake that I posted is also diffused I thought comparing them would be cool. The differences are pretty obvious.

Take care!

Orlando

It is sooo brown blotched! Like milk chocolate.
What genes did the parents have?

Are you sure it is the kastanie gene that give the brown blotches?

Is that animal related to buf or toffee animals?
Is the caramel gene in the mix?

Are you sure this is no mandarin blood? The mandarin bloods from our german lineage look pretty much the same while anery kastanies don't show a single hint of ground color, at leastin tthe german lineage. :shrugs:

Definitely a looker, but I never have thought it is more than a mandarin blood compared with the german ones.

Jim,
I am glad you chime in....In the second post of this thread I mention the fact that this could be either a Mandarin Blood?? and/or Avalanche Kastanie?? I am with you on this one as many pictures that I have seen from a few German websites depict similar phenotypic characteristics as the snake in question. A few more shed and I hope we can get a final answer.

Take care!
