Kate, Vicarious Owner of Gaia

Kate

I Love Herps!
Hello, I'm Kate, I've wanted a snake since elementary school, and when my pregnant friend had to get rid of her snake, my boyfriend got permission to have her at his house and I enjoy saying she is really mine. We both adore her and are new snake owners, she is a Central Albino Corn, a little shy of 5 feet, we just set her up with a great terrarium, a hide, some branches to climb, and big water bowl (she likes to soak)! Most importantly, she had never had a heat source before, and we got her one and she loves it! Great personality, and we really love her! She is helping to cement my desire to be an exotic animal vet :D

And I just posted a response in the egg thread! :) Lol.
Welcome, and yay! Would you mind posting some pictures of her? What makes you say she's a "Central Albino Corn"? Was that a morph name they had told you she was?

Give me a few, and I'll post some pics, that is the morph name my boyfriemd figured she was, I'd love to know her actual one, she's a beautiful girl, and SO full of personality!

She does have pink eyes, and starsevol- the dark spot on her back was where she had dirt under her scales. She was about to shed, and her substrate at the time was some dirt blend sold for reptiles at Petco. We now have her on Aspen, which she is loving!

OK, I was kinda hoping she was a paradox (with actual dark scales, which should never happen on snows), or hoping it was not a scar.
Enjoy her, she's beautiful!!

Thank you! she's a hoot! We've napped together with her curled on my decolletage and through a shirt sleeve, she's ridden on the steering wheel, she's a real joy to have! I had no idea corn snakes were so great and personable! I've always wanted a ball python, but this little gal has really made me love corns.
I got her from a friend who is a great person, but I'll admit I wasn't impressed with Gaia's set up (not her name back then, we thought Gaia fit better). She was in a Rubbermaid container with just a few drilled air holes and no head source, she had the dirt substrate, and a cat scratching post to rub against, and an Oak Farms gallon bucket cut up as a water dish. She said down here (Houston/Spring, TX) corns didn't need a heat source. When we got her, I researched, and was appalled to find that they DO actually need access to a heat source for proper digestion and a healthy life, and that they need at LEAST one hide. She now has both, and is very excited about it, too :) I'll be posting this story and more details about her new living arrangements in the Husbandry section, I don't want to just adequately meet her needs, I want to spoil her, give her a veritable Taj Mahal, with tons of enrichment, and changing up the climbing and hide features periodically.

Just to clarify, I know many breeders use plastic containers etc that are similar to Rubbermaids, I have no problem with this, my real issue was that hers really had poor airflow and got quite stuffy, and that she didn't have the hides or heat she needed. Other than that, I just wanted a more aesthetically pleasing environment, and as I said, I want to spoil her. I hope I didn't offend.
