Meet King Louie!
Louie is the newest addition to our collection. Louie comes to us from PetSmart. We stopped in this evening to have "just a look" at what they had, and I fell in LOVE with Louie. Mike (the hubby) knew that Louie was either coming home with tonight or tomorrow after I got done with work. Louie was listed as a "fancy" corn snake. Of course we don't know what sex Louie is and it really doesn't matter. To me Louie sort of looks like a carmel. King Louie is named for the crown shaped head pattern that he has. Take a look at the pictures (they are the best they are taken on the phone) and let us know what morph you think King Louie might be.

I doubt he is a normal due to the fact he doesn't have any red or orange on him. And as far as them calling them fancy I think is due to not having any red. One of our other guys a motley anery was considered a fancy at pet smart.

I expect it's the same use as fancy mice and fancy rats. I believe it's derived from 'to fancy' something or admire it. It has little to no real meaning for snakes and not much for rodents. For rodents, some stores will have 'fancy' rats and 'feeder' rats. Same for mice.

I figured they slap fancy on it to make it seem like it's better and people will be more willing to by it because it's "fancy" LOL!

Is this a trick question/post? Is this like those Wendy's commercials where the difference between a deluxe burger and a normal burger is a flagged toothpick stuck into one burger?

DISCLAIMER: I do not and will not ever advocate the practice of sticking flagged toothpicks into corn snakes (or any other living creature) for the sake of calling it "Fancy"

As to my guess on your corn snake, congratulations, it does appear as if you purchased ... a corn snake!

I agree that it looks like a caramel. And my amel came from petsmart as well as a "fancy" Which is weird because I have seen some petsmarts with actual amel labels and also fancy labels. In the end it is really just a sales gimmick.

I do agree that if it is any other morph than a normal their simple solution, & sales gimmick is to slap "fancy" on the name than to actually list all the different morphs they may end up withm end the end I got a snake with the same general colors / morphs I was looking at & determined that I wanted my next to be IF I was to get one. So it just hurried up the process of getting a new one.

I think we need better pictures. I don't trust the white balance in the first picture, and the impression I'm getting from the other two are either a dark Ghost or a light/browner Anery. I'm sure my impression could be wrong, it's really hard to tell with those pictures. Perhaps get one of him in natural daylight?

When I am able to find my camera, it has been misplaced, I will of course be taking new pictures. Right now he is getting used to his forever home, so he's only out about a minute at a time.
