Kink...I think? SORT OF GRAPHIC!

Well, I am not sure if this is a kink but it is definitly some sort of defect. My mom called me and said that one of them looked weird, so she sent me these picks. I am almost sure he will not make it, but can anyone tell me what this is? I guess I just need some advice.

Thanks.

Thanks guys. I will have my mom put him in a ziplock bag and should she just stick him in the freezer? I guess he will go to sleep and then just not wake up and not feel anything?

Thanks for the support.

Ok, my mom said it was weak so it is in the fridge for a little while, then the freezer. Thanks Everyone.

Very sorry to hear about this one. It's a sad part of breeding, unfortunately.

And just for the record, freezing is not considered humane by veterinary professionals. There is evidence that they will wake up and feel pain as their cells freeze and burst (cooling first doesn't appear to make a difference). Not trying to start anything or make you feel bad, just feel that since everyone has advocated freezing, the other side should get some representation. The most sure method is a quick, hard blow to the head. This will instantaly kill the brain which pretty much guarantees there will be no pain. I know it's alot harder on us than freezing, but it's the snakes welfare that should be first and foremost, not ours. Yes, I have done it, so I know it's hard, but in the end, I know it was the least painful for the snake.

Well, I don't know if I could do that. Hopefully I never have to euthinize another snake, or at least until there is a better way to do it.

Almost seems like a moot point IMO. At least the pain in the freezer is better than the pain of it's life.
I don't think I could take a hammer to one of my snakes either, so freezer would have to do for me too if I was in that situation.
As long as you are proactively ending it's torment the best way that you are able, you're doing the right thing in my book.
Not that I'm doubting the truth of what you say Duff, I just know I couldn't do it....

poor lil guy..
Just out of curiosity as it is my first year breeding this year, can't you just gas them like you do with mice? Either with CO2 or pure oxygen(my mum insists pure oxygen is nicer than CO2 and brings it back from work for me, she is a nurse :S )
Sorry for your loss dude, atleast he isnt suffering anymore.
Owen

I have actually euthanized a snake this way, I had dry ice and I put the snake in a deli cup inside the dry ice bucket and added a bit of water. He was gone quite quickly from the CO2 and I don't think he suffered. But I've also heard it argued that the CO2 is not effective because their respiration rate is slower than a mammal's.
I do have a couple of qualms about freezing snakes without cooling them in the fridge first, and perhaps a blow to the head is the kinder way to go, but because Dave is out of town and his mom is taking care of the hatchlings, well I don't know if that's something I'd ask MY mom to do. But I do know what you are trying to say Duff, and I count myself lucky that I have not had to euthanize many snakes. Anyway this is a case where the snake was already probably suffering as has been said.
Murphy certainly is having a banner year...

I always cool in the fridge for at least a day or two before freezing. Very sorry to see you had this bad luck! I had one deformed baby in my first clutch this year. It fortunately, was dead in the egg and I didn't have to do the deed.

I'm so sorry Dave. It was a beautiful baby and I'm sure the other ones are just as beautiful so look towards what you have, not what you've lost!
I'm not sure I agree with ANY way of killing your animal but I believe it's for the best no matter HOW you kill them to simply put them out of their pain sooner then it seems he was going to go. :awcrap:
