Lab blocks

I use Critter cubes, by Sun Seed. They are actually a nutritious high protein treat to be used with other food, so I figure that's great for my rats. I also feed hamster food along with the block treats. They get Veggie cookies dog treats to chew on and strawberry drops every other day.

I've found that the best source for me locally for lab blocks is the feeder breeders at the local reptile show. I get Harlan Teklad 2018 lab blocks for $13 for 33 lbs. In the pet rat world Harlan is considered to be the best quality lab block, with Mazuri coming in 2nd. Mazuri goes for $18 for 50 lbs.

Check your local feed stores for Mazuri 6F 5M30 Breeder rodent block. Odds are they won't have Harlan as Harlan doesn't deal through retailers. Mazuri is made by Purina so it should be much easier to find.

I use Mazuri 6F and get 50# for $20 from my local feed store, they do have to special order for me. It is a great feed and I would reccomend it to anyone.

Buying in bulk at a feed store I would hope you could get it much cheaper than 1.00 per pound. Closer to $.40 per pound is more like it.

Another vote for some already mentioned ideas:

When I had rats, my guys (and gals) got Mazuri too. I also supplemented with treats, including those yogurt drops (usually intended for bunnies), and dog treats.
