Little Girl is the first cornsnake that I've ever owned, so a lot of my experience with her has been trial and error and research. I've just recently acquired a new baby, courtesy of Susan. Little Girl is an amel that I purchased from PetSmart in May before I registered to this site and learned better. By definition she is an ideal snake. Sheds almost exactly on time, has never missed a feeding with me since I brought her home. Her viv is identical to the hatchling's from Susan, correct temperatures, hides and all. I always see the hatchling exploring and playing in his leaves.. just generally out in the open. I never see Little Girl leave her log, but that's always where you can find her. She's such a sweetheart and calm as can be, but I'm curious as to why she never tries to escape or leave her log.

Am I just paranoid, or is there something to this? Any additional information, feel free to ask.

I have two corns that are almost yearlings, got them about 2 weeks apart. Spaz (my g/f's amel snake) we got it first. It never came out. Bought mine and my boy's(Reverse Okeetee) snake Freak, he was always out moving around, exploring. Now it's the opposite. Freak never comes out and Spaz is always out and about. When Spaz is hungry, he goes hunting. Freak, he's hungry, he doesn't move.

You really need to ask Susan, why she sold you such a weird snake. LOL

All snakes are different. or No two snakes are the same. ect ect ....

LOL, the little one from Susan is such a riot! I guess I just wish Little Girl was as adventurous as Helios.

Thanks all for the replies. I didn't figure it was a health issue, I guess she just likes her privacy lol

In the short period that I've owned my four. I've seen them hide for a month, spend two weeks wandering around, then go back to hiding. Very odd, but I'm not complaining. :)

its normal for hatchlings to hide all the time, in nature theyd be doing this to hide from predators since theyre so small and defenseless. but like others have said each snake is different. some are very active, some are not. both mine hide all the time and only rarely come out at night *shrugs*

Most of my snakes hide all day.
Corn snakes are just not very exciting to watch.

There is the occasional active corn, but that isn't typical.

I have to wait until about 10min after I turn off my lamp for Whitey to come out and start playing but once he starts he's active all night. exploring his viv, climbing on stuff, trying to escape lol. I usually stay up and watch him for a bit. although last night, after feeding time he explored for maybe 10min and then i think he felt too fat to climb around cause he just sat on the warm side and laid motionless lol

although i hate the fasting that can come along with mating season because it worries me as a snake mommy, i rather enjoy my males super active nature and friendly outgoingness during this time. im kinda excited for spring so i can see him really active again!
