Leopard Gecko?

Im just curious if anyone knows anything about Leopards. Of all the pics Ive seen, Ive never seen one like mine. Anyone have any idea what morph it is?

Oh wow, that's amazing. Are you sure it's a leopard gecko? The tails normally don't look like that. Yours looks spiky instead of ribbed. But man that is a beautiful animal. Looks like you've made a cool cage for it too.

Well I got it for free from some people who thought it was cool so they got one but after a few months they got bored and sorta neglected feeding and such. The head has the pattern of a Leopard. The tail isnt as spiky as it looks in the pic. Its goin to shed soon so I'll take a pic when its done with that. Thanks for the quick reply!

^ I'm pretty sure that link is selling African Fat-Tail Geckos not Leopard Geckos, but it actually looks more like what he has. The only thing that looks a bit skinny to me is the tail, but that will grow with time if you keep feeding it right.

If the tail really is more ribbed than spiky looking, it really might just be a weird morph of a leopard gecko. I've never seen any like that and I'm pretty involved with leopard geckos. Do you know if it is a male or a female?

Ooops! Thanks for pointing out the mistake. Rough day I guess. LOL

It is a Leopard Gecko and it is underweight. The tail stores fat should and should be nice and thick but when they aren't feed they start using the fat stored in their tails. As long as you feed him/her proper(which I'm sure you will) s/he will be fine.

As far as the morph I have seen a few like that but I forget what they were. Does it have dark eyes or red eyes? Also are the colors in the picture accurate?

I'm pretty sure leos are born with black bands like that, which fade over time. Spots appear, or they remain mostly patternless depending on the morph, I think. Could be wrong.

It doesn't look THAT thin to me, honestly. lol

Yes you are right. Some are born with bands that fade or fade into spots all depends on the morph.

The gecko itself is not skinny yet because it has been using the fat stored in it's tail. If you look at the tail it is pretty skinny it should be nice and fat. That is also why it looks spiker than normal. It isn't extremely bad but it still isn't good.

I was kind of thinking maybe it's a hypo?

It is an old pic. Ive had it for probably 6-8 months and its tail has gotten huge. My dad keeps tellin me if it keeps eating, it wont be able to get around lol.

Yeah he is about to shed. Probably tonight or tomorrow. I can see the loose skin around its arms and head. I do have a question. Some people say its good to feed them the occasional pinkie, others say dont do it cause of the high fat or whatever. Does anyone have an opinion on this? All mine eats is crickets and meal worms...

I feed all mine a pinkie once a month and haven't had a problem. Then the rest of the time I give them crickets with a few worms.
I've read that it is more benefical to give them to females if you are going to breed them, I guess to help fatten them up.

Cool thanks. I'll give it one in a few days. I still have a few crickets for it to eat

On Ron Tremper's web site who is a very well known breeder, says feeding them pinkies is a not good idea. I've never tried it, but I've heard of a lot of people who have which means it can't be that bad. Also, I've heard both sides about what they eat in the wild. Some say they find baby mice sometimes, some say they don't.

If you want to be on the safe side, I would say don't feed it to them because it's not needed for their well-being, but at the same time it might help fatten it up more quickly.

Sittin here on the forum I kept hearing this strange sound. At first I thought it was the Corn but I looked over and saw the gecko in the process of shedding

Judging by your more recent photo, the gecko seems to have the proper weight. Like others said before, the tail should be noticeably "fat", which is how it appears in the photo you've recently posted. As for the morph... it looks very much like one of my Leopard Geckos, which I believe is a hypo.
As far as feeding your gecko pinkies... I have heard that some feed their Leopard Geckos bi-weekly pinkies (every other week), and it has been a successful means of providing the gecko with additional nutrition. I have only given my Geckos pinkies on rare occasions as a treat, and there has been no ill effects because of it.

When you feed then do you have to do anything special besides thawing them out?
