i have a new baby corn snake..
and i bought a new cage set..

it came with a lamp with a red bulb, that really doesn't give off any light..
and a regular light bulb..

however i have a heating pad on one side of the tank..
do i need to use the lamps?

i been switching on the red one at night, and the other lamp during the day..

also, i hear that humidy isn't needed for corn snakes?

im very new at this :(

Hi new person.

You do not need the lights. Snakes have no need for additional light as long as you are getting the desired temperatures from the heat mat. Keeping the heat at one end is a good idea.

Humidity is not a real concern either. Your water bowl should be large enough that the snake can bath in it when it wants. When they are getting ready to shed they will soak sometimes. Other than that, don't worry about it.

I know what setup you're talking about and the red light is just for you really to be able to see your snake without disturbing it. It's a personal preference, and the other light is a day light to keep the light cycles of the day, but isn't needed if you have window and sunshine is coming through them. I use a day light because i keep my snake in the basement with no windows and it's dark, but it's even better for at night, since corns are nocturnal.

hi wade :)

oh awesome.. so do i not need lighting at all?
i was over here stressing out over when to switch lights and the timing of it.

also, with the heating mat, should i not worry about the temperature of the tank? i have a therm. on there with humidity levels as well.

oh awesome!
i was wondering that as well ( i wonder alot, dang ocd! ).
my room always has bright light coming in because i have an uncovered window.. and his room gets direct heat from it. my room is rather warm.

you have to worry that your tank doesn't get too hot. You don't want your snake to burrow under your substrate and burn it's skin. Refer to my previous post about lighting.
