lighting

I am keeping my snake in a room in the basement that has no windows. My set up is a 20 gal. high aquarium with a 15w light bulb on top on a 12 hour timer. Is this o.k. for lighting? Does it matter that the rest of the room is dark most of the time? It just doesn't seem very natural.

My corns get very little natural light. But I turn on my light in the morning and at sunset I turn it off. So. it's shorter hours in the winter.

Yeah, if they have the lights on in their vivs, they can't really tell that the rest of the room is dark. So it's ok.

Thanks, I won't worry about it then. I don't think I would like to be in a dark room with a light above my head, but I'm not a snake.

Think about it this way: the snake's tank is like a room (as in a bedroom) which has overhead lighting. There is no differece in having the light on in your snake's tank with the rest of the room dark than there is in you having your overhead lights on in your house at night when it's dark outside.
