little black speck below eye

Hi guys! I just got my 3rd corn yesterday from a friend who couldnt keep him any more. He's a baby, not big at all, and my friend got him from who knows where 4 days ago. When I brought him home last night I started to just look him over when I noticed a ittle black speck right below his eye. I'm not sure what it is or if everything is ok. I tried to get a picture but he wont hold still long enough. I'm not sure if I should be worried or take him in anywhere. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!!

My first thought is mites. If that is the case you have trouble right here in River City. Mites look like specks of pepper. You will see them floating in the water bowl.

sorry for the confusion...it just depends what angle I am at. Sometimes it looks like its "on" and others it looks like its "below"

can you rub it off? if so do it gently. maybe use a damp qtip. then crush it with your fingers or on a tissue/paper towel to see if blood comes out. if so id say mites. if not it could be just dirt. give him a bath and see if anything comes floating off him.

When you say below...do you mean below the lens, but still in/on the eyeball? Or do you mean below as in physically below the eye, on the scales surrounding the eye.

I took a look at the other two snakes that I had a choice to get and both of them have the same black speck in the same exact spot. Could it be this is just a mark passed down through their genetics?

its not quite that big or dark
Mites go through 5 stages of development, so they can be smaller and slightly more red....
Do what was suggested earlier and try to see if it rubs off and then crush it between your nails, Mites click as they are crushed.....
Plus look between the jaws in the fold of skin, mites love to hang out there...

If it is on/in the eye, I *think* a little bit in front of the pupil...I've seen that before and I think it is normal.
That's why I was trying to figure out if the speck was on/in the eye itself...or on skin.

Is the snake in question an Amel? If so...for some reason a black dot shows up in their eyes sometime...not sure why...It was in my Amel's eyes....and someone else said it was in theirs too....let me find a pic of my old Amel, Crush you can compare.....

Does it look like the black speck in this eye? If so...it's nothing...more than likely a reflection of the pupil on the back of the eye that you are seeing...that's why it looks like it's in a differenty place depending on the angle you are looking at...

YES!!! That is exactly what it looks like! I have a larger femal Amel and looking her over I can see it with her as well. Thank you so much :)

thanks for providing the pic, I was trying to search for a similar pic I remember someone posting when this topic came up in the past, and couldn't find it.

Lol...no problem...I kind of scanned through this thread...wasn't sure if it really WAS an Amel that we were talking about...but I just remembered seeing it in Crush's eyes...

Like I said...I believe it is going to have something to do with a reflection of the pupil on the back of the eyes...somewhat like a red eye effect...but since it's Amelanistic (And the eyes themselves also lack all dark pigment), that's the only explanation that I can come up with :D

Awesome! I noticed this when I got my snow, I thought her eyes were weird, but when I saw my amel was exactly the same I wasn't too worried. I'm happy to be totally sure now it's something normal. :)
