Locality Black Rats

I have eggs due to hatch in about a month from a Montgomery, NC pair of black rats. The father is 6.5' and mother is 5.5' so you can expect the little ones to get big and dark black as adults. I'm not taking any payments yet, just looking to start a list so I can email those that are interested when they hatch since it's a large clutch. They'll be $25 each or $40 for a pair for those that contact me in advance to get on the list.

For anyone looking for a bit larger and maybe a bit more "aware" (not trying to say smarter, but ;) ) snake Black Rats are perfect. They thrive in the largest of rubbermaids and make great display snakes too. :*)

Indeed! I currently have a Black Rat, and have had them in the past. Very gentle giants, they are. Active and fun. Not the most beautiful snakes in the world, but not ugly by any stretch.

If I didn't already have one, I would take one without hesitation.

I contacted Kevin soon after he posted. He responded he'd let me know when they were available. I haven't heard anything yet, so I'm hoping I haven't missed out.

He said about a month, so that would have been the middle of July for hatching. So how long before they shed and how long to get them eating? Hmmmmmmmmmmm? Might be getting time for him to be finding homes for them. I hope.

Sorry about the delayed responses, I've been out of town for the last week and without internet access. Unfortunately I lost most of the clutch when the big storm hit and I was without power for most of a week. I didn't have any way to regulate the incubator temperature effectively and the vast majority died full term in the egg unfortunately. The only surviving hatchlings have already been claimed. Sorry to disappoint.

Kevin - What rotten luck. So sorry for you. That must have been very disappointing for you. Well, there is always next year, right?

It was very disappointing and heartbreaking to cut open so many eggs to find fully formed babies (many with numerous kinks) dead in the egg. There were some pattern anomalies as well like you often find when temperatures spike. On the bright side, I did get 1.1 perfectly normal, healthy hatchlings so it wasn't a total loss. I have sold the breeders, so I won't be working with these particular snakes anymore, but I am looking forward to another rat snake project or two. I hate that I got so many hopes up since I had a large response on the waiting list, but that's why I didn't take any money prior to hatching-you never know what could happen.

Aw Man!!! Murphy Certainly has a way!! I agree, Theres always Next year!!

Your Adult Pair are Absolutely Beautiful Btw.

That sucks! I was going to say put me on the list for next year but you got rid of the pair lol. Did you happen to sell to someone on here so we might have a chance at the babies next year? Thanks.

No, he's not a member here as far as I know, but I'd imagine he'll be offering some of their offspring somewhere online so keep your eyes on the different classifieds across the net. If the female double clutched, he should have some available any time now.
