lonely snake?

I've had my corn for almost two weeks now and he's adjusting nicely. He's usually in one of his hides but when I take him out he's friendly and inquisitve and loves to crawl on the keyboard, and just tried to get into my ear >.<. This is my question. When I put him back in his cage I left him crawl on one of the plants and crawled down off it and started to wander. I watched him because he's always just gone right back to his hide. In his wandering he noticed his reflection and kept trying to nuzzle the glass and trying to get his reflection's attention. Or at least that's what it looked like. My question is this, juding by how tame he is when being handled, and his reaction to his reflection, could he be lonely? The pet store he came from had five or six hatchlings in the tank and I'm wondering if he misses the company. And if that is a possibility would that lessen the risk of housing more than one snake in a cage, if I could find another that's already accoustomed to having company?

There's a thread on here titled "do your snakes seem happy living together?". This has a lot of debate about how snakes "feel" and adapt to their company. So far, this is a very interesting thread, though I don't think anyone has posted on it recently. Here's the link.

More than likely, he just doesn't see the glass and is trying to get out. I doubt very much that he cares whether or not someone else is there. Just my 2 cents.

my corn does the same thing to the glass. she's just trying to get out though (most of the time). i agree that some of the time she probably just can't see the glass, but a lot of the time she's nuzzling the gap between the doors and trying to get out. silly snakey... i betting your corn is doing the same thing. they're generally solitary animals so i'd be a tad surprised if it was out of genuine loneliness. and they have poor eyesight, so i'm not sure how he can see his own reflection. also, you said you've had him for only two weeks; about two weeks after i had my corn, she stopped being in her hide so much and started hanging out on her branch and other parts of the cage more. so maybe he's also more used to his new home and doesn't feel the need to hide as much. just a thought.

I agree...Legoless tends to burrow beneath the substrate more than "hide" now that we've been together a few months. But you ought to see him "climb" my hair...Aye!
