It is a baby racer. They are so cool looking at that age, wish they would retain that pattern into adulthood.

congrats on your catch

Thanks. One of the kids came running in to tell me there was a snake that ran under the basketball goal. We looked so funny in the yard trying to catch a speeding worm. My oldest son brought out the snake hook. LMAO

I caught a baby racer last month - pattern was much more faded than yours. Little sucker struck multiple times and hit a few LOL.

Sorry, blurry Cell Phone pic:

Why do they have to be so bitey?? The first one I caught- I'm not from Florida, and we don't have them up in Minnesota, I thought it was a corn hatchling. Bitiest snake I'd ever picked up! I put him in a Sterilite while I tried to ID him.

NICE RACER, Becky!!! Kewl catch.

I think that one of their "attributes" is that they are so quick and "bitey". Makes for a fun catch.

I had the opportunity to catch a 4.5 foot Red Racer yesterday... but missed the phone call by 5 minutes. :(

Don't you just love their "intelligent" look? Racers are just darn amazing to me. :)

i used to catch racers all the time as a kid they'd bite the heck out of me and i'd still catch them i actually rescued one that had been stomped on by my neighbor and got it back to health and kept it for years it eventually became tame it just took a super long time
