Me and my wife ARE going on vacation in Sep. We have not decided where to go yet. I am the hold up! My biggest concern is the price. Her biggest concern is a "nice vacation", who cares about price. I live in Northwest Ohio. Does anyone have any "cheap" vacation ideas? Just FYI, if it's a good idea but "cheap" I can sell It! I am gifted in selling "cheap" ideas! LOL

what kind of vacation destination do you (i.e. your wife) like? Big city sites and shopping? Natural wonder type sites? Relaxing...busy...adventure...etc...

Her ideas so far are...Los Vegas, Myrtle Beach, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Maine?, Porto Rico, Niagara Falls. I guess I need some "flash" to sell it? LOL

well you could go to Walmart.. thats cheap.
Spend 3 days in sporting goods, another day in mens and 1 in ladies.

take a cruise. they're really cheap right now -- and they treat you really well. all your meals are cooked, your bed is made, your bathroom is cleaned, and they even leave little mints on your pillows at bedtime. awesome vacation - no matter where you choose to go!

Join one of the travel groups like Hospitality Exchange at http://hospex.net/ We were members for a long time, although I think we have lapsed this past year or so. Members pay a small annual fee and get a listing of all other members - many in the US, but many abroad, too. The idea is to stay with people who share some of your interests, for no more than 3 days, unless you really hit it off and they invite you longer. Then you get to see the area like a native, and meet cool people who are gregarious, or they wouldn't be members.

We never stayed with anyone else, but we did have a family from France, a man from Ireland, a woman from Finland who had been living in Colombia several years, plus a few Americans. We even kept in touch for a while, but then lost touch. I have heard of virtually no problems, because any problem members would be reported to the Exchange the first time there were problems. And it is cheap! You could go to Niagara Falls, or maybe Canada, since they are both RELATIVELY close, yet sort of exotic, and stay with a couple of different members. Their profiles will discuss their family life, house, interests, etc, so that you can try to make a match. It is a very different way to travel and to meet people.

There are many similar groups, but that is the one I have experience with. Some attract families, some young singles, etc. Check them all out online and see what meshes with you.

BTW, there are also organizations for caretakers. You sign up, and then read ads from people from all over the US and the world. They are from people who need somebody to stay at their place and take care of plants, animals, or whatever, while they are gone. Could be in a big city, but is often a rural place. It is another unusual and inexpensive, but exotic, idea.

Yep...go for a cruise. Only a few hundred bucks these days and you can leave out of new york...be gone for a week, get to see amazing new places every day and you get all meals included!

you can go to the flying w ranch in kelletville pa. my uncles family owns it and he and my aunt/ their kids run it. its a great place. you already missed rodeo season, but its still awesome. take a nice trail ride on horses. camp, or rent a cabin. not that much. they have an awesome bar. and theres another one called cougar bobs up the road that is awesome too. if its still there. its right next to the allegheny river so theres great fishing i know from experience of working a canoe/kayak outfit with my uncle when i was growing up. hes no longer in business. but there are still a few others running canoes and kayaks there. id suggest outback, or eagle rock. we were the best, but those are the biggest 2 competitors we had. it might not sound like a fun vacation for some. but thats my kind of fun outing.

ive been to the falls way to often since i just moved from buffalo and am not 21 yet. if you go to the falls, i highly suggest the canadian side. the american side is rubbish. they have the african safari up there though. yes africa in canada. hele' rides over the falls and around the area, the maide of the midst of course. also a cool place if youve never seen it. and clifton hill is right there with a lot of cool attractions, but a beer will cost you 8 bucks and nothing else is cheap at all either.

hope you find something cool. but thats my 2 cents. have fun.

Ok, thank you to everyone who posted. Here's the deal, we're going to Vegas. We had a long heart to heart tonight and decided the "glam" of Vegas is cheap and exciting! LOL

Kathy your idea is just as exciting for me. For the purpose of being able to take a look into other peoples lives, I'm weird like that I quess. My wife and I have decided that is the route to take, after we take our "glam" Vegas vacation!

well you could go to Walmart.. thats cheap

When I took over paying bills and finances from my wife last year I found out "I" was spending $900-$1000 a month at Wal-Mart. That was a shocker to me! So, now that I think about it, maybe Wal-Mart isn't so cheap of a vacation.... if my wife has anything to do with it! LOL

Anyone know of cheap Vegas Deals? I'm coming up with around $800 for plane and hotel for 5 days and four nights in Sep.

Oh, sorry about leaving out the great idea of cruises, but I get terrible motion sickness. So I FEAR a long cruise! My mind tells me I'll be tired or sick, and I don't want either on a vacation.

Call Around

Vegas is hurting for tourists, you can get rooms for less then 50 bucks a night and they are nice rooms at nice hotel/casinos
We stayed at Sams Town, that is a nice place and cheap hotel rooms. You can catch buses for free into downtowm also from there.
Have fun!

It's now official, we're going to Vegas. Being the cheap skate that I am I have researched every angle I can, within my knowlege and the time alotted, 723 is the damage. That is hotel, plane tickets and coupons to hotel food and caseno for two, 4 nights 5 days. That is total cost by the way, taxes, fees and such.
