Looking for a home for Sulcata

A sulcata tortoise was recently found at a construction site by a family member. The tortoise is probably 5-7 years old and about 13” in length. He seems relatively healthy and only after a recent vet visit, we realized he has pin worms as well as a type of protozoa. For an apartment already housing a box turtle and two snakes, we are nervous about the spreading of pinworms to the other animals. The protozoa, however, is commonly found in torts and turtles and is actually thought to be beneficial to their digestive system. We are actively looking for a new home to take him in. I say “he”, but it is difficult to determine the sex of this tortoise, so it may be a lady.

We took him into our home and cared for him for a couple weeks so far, but already realize this is not an easy task. We live in an apt and have built an enclosure (3’x4’), but this is not enough area for a tortoise to be comfortable. He eats fine and is absolutely adorable. It is a big commitment and we are only looking for people who understand the responsibilities of taking on such an animal. If you or anyone you know is interested, please send me a PM. We are located in the Philadelphia, PA area. Pictures will be posted soon.

Also, suggestions for reputable adoption centers will help us as well.
