Lost snake; please help!

What happended to all the 'Lost Snake' posts? I could only find one. . .

Well, it finally happened to me, I lost a snake. I went on vacation for 4 days and upon my return I found that my snake is gone. I feed him right before I left and his light was on a timer. I don't know how long he's been gone or how far he went. I destroyed my room looking for him and he's not there. If he squeezed out the door, he would be in the basement right next to the door that leads to the backyard where there are dogs and basically an endless number of hiding spots. I am pretty hopeless at this point but I have two questions that might help. . .

1. Are there any tricks besides cutting up a 2 liter bottle for catching snakes?

2. In the wild, do snakes claim a territory and stay in that basic area or do they roam around?

Thanks for any and all help. All I want for Christmas is to find my snake.

I sorry that you lost your snake.

the only trick that i have ever seen work is putting a mouse with a few small cuts in a 2 liter bottle, then watching for the snake. i've only seen my cousin do it, but it worked for him. Remember its a long shot.

best of luck,

Awwwwwwww sorry for ya man... I definitely know how you feel right now. Every day I feel worse about not having my guy, I even said the same words you just did, all I want for christmas is my Shoelace back. I keep hoping every night that this will be the night :( Mines been gone 1 1/2 weeks now :( No signs of him at all...

As for ideas, all I can suggest is the standard, pop bottle trap, Flour or cornstarch along walls, crinkly bags if you think he's big enough to make them crinkle... I have my guys feeding tub, with his favorite hide and some papertowel that I used to dry off the mice on the floor against the wall in the room his viv is. I also frequently leave a mouse in there overnight :( Still no luck yet...

I also wake up between midnight and 2:00am sometime to take a flashlight around the house and check the edges and walls of rooms. I especially watch the laundry room as it seems I hear MANY stories of them showing up there...

I am now almost afraid to do laundry and thouroughly check every article before washing...

Anyway, good luck, I know how easy it is for things like this to happen. I also know how it can sure make you feel like a big piece of poo... :(

Regrading the question about catching try putting and pinkie and a cave in the places in the room which are warmest. It would be very unlikly that your snake has gone outside because it's most probbably colder outside than inside. Also try looking in the warmest darkest, quietist and most crampt places in the rooms. Idk wheather this is any help but good luck.

It shouldn't be too warm outside hopefully he still is somewhere indoors. I did the bottle trick and it worked for me but it hasn't worked for everyone, however I think you have to give it a shot. I placed bottles all over my apartment but the one she ended up in was the one that was closest to where her viv was. If you try the bottle, make sure it's dark and warm in addition to the food, I think that helped me.

You said you have dogs and that makes me a little nervous because chances are they will your snake before you do and that could be bad. So I'd try to keep them away from the room...if that's possible.

Good luck and hopefully you'll get your snake back for X-Mas! :santa:

Thanks for the tips

Thanks for the kind words everyone. It is cold here ( cold for San Francisco anyway, still like 45-50) and very rainy so I was hoping that he wouldn't have gone outside, but my fiance thinks we would've smelled water and gone. I'm going to pray that he had enough smarts to stay inside. I put a bottle outside last night, but I think I'll move it inside now. When I get home from work I'm going to search by the water heater and washer/dryer. Thanks again and please, if you have more tips, share them!

We found him! :)

So, the bottle trap didn't work as planned but I do owe finding my snake to that thing. Thanks so much for the idea! I was able to find out where my snake was in the garage when I found a trap sans mouse. It was only then that I noticed the small hole in the wall behind the water heater and when we cut the wall open guess what we found!?!? One tired, cold little snake. So my snake is back at home and seems fine. Anything I should watch out for, health wise? I was thinking of taking him to the vet just to make sure he was okay, but I wonder if it's worth it if he's acting fine. . . Anyway, thanks all and Happy New Year!

Suh-weet! I'd make sure that he's at proper temps for four or five days before feeding him. Of course, the first thing I would do would be to ensure the security of his viv. You know he got out somehow, so if you can't find out how, you may want to consider a different housing arrangement. Good luck!

I lost my snake a few months ago, right after i first got her, i looked everywhere, under the fridge under the couch, everywhere, then when i got home from work i looked in the same places again, and there she was under the fridge, they like warm areas, and dont look only once in the same place, you need to look over and over again...good lucj :)

Great news! Did he eat the mouse from the trap? If so, I'd leave him alone for a couple of days, but watch for a regurge. The little guy has been through quite a lot of stress, and needs time to rest. I don't think a vet trip would be necessary, but it wouldn't hurt if you just want to be sure. Wait until after he digests, though.

hey, i lost my snake 3 days ago. can someone explain the 2 litre bottle thing to me? im not too sure i understand it.
