Lost Snake

Rats not Corns!!!!
HELP!!
Yesterday I left my lid open and one of my rat snakes has gone walkabout.
Can anyone help on the best way to find and retrieve him/her.
I've looked right through the room in which their in and found nothing :shrugs: . They are keep in my loft room with my pc and musical instruments, and I'm worried that he/she has fallen down the hatch opening and hurt himself/herself. Additionally I'm concerned that he/she could be getting cold since the weather is abit on the cooler side.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just try and do a search on the boards. I always see topics about this. They are usually really helpful. Just relax, you'll find it...

Lost snake suggestions

if your snake is big enough to get stuck: cut the bottom off a plastic soda bottle, put in a nice warm mouse (brained is smellier) that is too big to fit through the bottle top, then tape the bottom back on and wrap the trap with something to make a nice and secure cave. Hopefully the snake will climb in, eat the mouse, then not be able to get back out.

If he has eaten recently, or is too small to get stuck, try putting powder around your doorways and baseboards - hopefully the snake will pass through the powder and leave some sort of a clue to his wareabouts or direction of travel.

You can also try placing crumpled paper or mice in paper bags around the house. The idea here is that he will climb in, then make noise moving the bag around.

Remember that he will be most active around dusk and dawn, so those are good times to look. He will probably turn up when you least expect it. I know when one of my herps goes missing, I always seem to find them when I am not looking. I wouldn't worry about the cold - I am not sure about Bairds specifically, but rat snakes in general are very tolerant of temperature fluctuation. Unless he is trying to digest a meal, the cold probably won't hurt him. Searching for warm spots in the house wouldn't be a bad idea - if it is chilly, he will alsmost certainly seek out a warm, dark, small space.

I wouldn't worry - he'll show himself when he wants to. Until then he is probably VERY well hidden - it's amazing how well the little buggers are at that. Good luck. Bairds are right at the top of my wish list. They are just beautiful snakes.

Thanks for the advice guys, I have been looking through all the previous info on finding lost snakes and they all have good stories to tell and are giving me some hope of finding him/her. Will keep looking and keep hoping.

Something else to let you know about. You PC has very nice heat producing items. If the snake is looking for an area of het, you might want to check your comptuer. Check the poser supply, inside the case, etc. I have seen snakes that climb into the power supply through the fan vents. Also, if your amps are on for your instruments, you might want to check in them too.

Thanks but already checked pc and amps, and took TV apart to look in that too.
Just gonna have to wait and see.

cool. just wanted to make sure that you were aware of that possibility. Good luck and I hope that he/she shows up sooner rather than later.

Just thought of something else

Don't know if he ate recently or not - but if he did, keep your nose open - you just might smell his location... LOL worked for me with a gecko that got loose

Well i'm checking everwhere at the moment and beginnning to think that he/she is no longer in the loft but got out in to one of the other rooms in the house, so checking there as well. :shrugs:
Still hopeful though, so will keep you posted.

you will think that. You proably read my stories, so you know my good fortune. I thought that way. The funny thing is, I found them when I wasnt looking for it. I was stumbling around, and just boink! there it was. It'll turn up. Especially if it is cold. there would be NO reason for it to leave to the outside. I have heard stories of snakes being found on the water pipes where warm water is used often.. Just a little helping hand if I can lend it...
I will bet you will find your little dude. It will turn up!!! :crazy02:

Do you have any curtains/Drapes? I have heard some people on here say that they have found their snakes in them...or on the top of the rails that hold them. Also check in your hamper, Dresser drawers, Trash Can, and if you have a book case in the area, check in between the books.

Just give an update for you all. Well still no sign of the little "Blighter", been searching everywhere. Tried the 2 litre bottle thing with mouse in it, no result, but will keep looking and trying.

ya, manson has a good point... my freind lost his ball python like 2-3 times and he found it in his mattreses every time, but now he has lost it and hasnt found it yet i dont think... but just check every room in and bettween the mattreses.
