Lost snake..

Hello everyone. Its been a sad day for me so far, unfortunately. :sobstory:

This morning at around 8:30 I went to go change the water in my snakes tank. Usually when I change the water and I put it back in, I check the hides to see if the snake is ok, this time, I checked both hides and it wasnt there. I said to myself alright, its probably borrowed somewhere, I took my whole viv apart to see if it was in there, and IT WAS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. I dont understand how it got out, the viv was locked w/ clips. I dont get it. I just fed it Tuesday night after it shed for the second time that I have owned it(at least it was a complete shed). Tonight I will just put some pinkies in my room and hopefully it will come back home sometime soon. Its pretty cold here in NYC now so I dont know if it'll turn up alive, but I am going to keep a positive attitude.

BTW, I checked my whole house as well, but found nothing :shrugs: .

put out some heat pads or an area with a heat lamp so that there is a definate warm spot in the room.

Do a search on the site for lost or missing snakes, and you will find a whole host of ideas to use to find your snake.

Don't panic. Snakes have been known to dissapear and then reappear where you least expect them after weeks, months, and even years.

Good luck in finding your AWOL snake.

Did you leave the lid off when you went to change the water?

Anyways, google it and you'll find some stuff. Try putting a line of flour or similar in all your doorways. Or put crumpled newspaper at the base of your walls, turn out the lights, and listen for crumpling (snakes don't tend to travel across big open spaces). If it's close to feeding time, lay a mouse out for him. Maybe a trail of that lizard scent stuff. Good luck, I hope you find him! There are some amazing survival stories of these guys.

Do you have anything in the cage that is hollow? Some of the "fake" tree stumps & hides are made of plastic and there are small holes used for the plastic injection. I "lost" one of my snakes that way- turns out he was in the cage the entire time. Good Luck!

Hey everyone, no good news yet unfortuneately. I laid a pinkie out last night, but no luck, it was still there this morning.

For now, I am just going to leave a couple of its hides out I put the heat lamp on as well, I made a little area away from everything in my room. I just dont understand how it got out, before I went to take the lid off to change the water I checked to see if somehow it was hanging by the lid, but it wasnt. The clamps were on tight, I tried to lift the corners but I couldnt lift it far enough to see any kind of opening where my snake could come out from. Besides I just fed it the night before, so it was still fat! I dont know... :shrugs:

Hopefully, it will return home soon... Also, if I find it, how will I know if it is in hibernation mode or if its dead, I mean, if I pick it up will it move or obviously if it is dead it wont?

good luck and that guy right they turn up in weird places. i looked every wear and he was under a klenex the whole time makes u wunna hit your head on a wall :headbang:

I'm so sorry you lost your snake, hope he turns up, have you tried any of the snake traps around, the bottle one is supposed to be a good way to catch and trap an escapee, good luck :)

Hey everyone, good news! It turns out my snake was never really missing! WhiteLips, you were right. My snake was inside the hollow piece of bark I have in the viv. I couldnt believe it, I have to find a way to cover that hole or otherwise one day my poor snake is going to get stuck! On the other hand, the first day I went to look for my snake, the first thing I removed from the tank was that piece of bark, and I cant believe it didnt try to escape then! The past 3 days, I have had the lid open on the tank, and it didnt try to escape(or maybe it did only to return home, who knows?!). I shook that piece of bark like a madman and it didnt seem like nothing was in it though, weird? Well, anyways, this is good news, I am happy and well yeah thats it! WAHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! :crazy02:

Good result that, glad you got him back safe and sound, now go and have a great christmass with your little one.
:santa:
