Loving My Snake

I am new to this forum, and snakes as well. I have always owned and had a big thing for lizards of all sorts. When I had my daughter I had to sell my bearded dragon that I had raised from nothing, because I didn't have the time anymore. I haven't owned another one since. When I was at my moms, her neighbor, who deals in snakes for a living, was showing off his collection in the street. The only one I handled was a 3 foot long jungle corn(just found out name) I instantly fell in love.He later told me how little care they required. I wanted one. I looked at a lot of different corn sites and found alot that I liked the price tag was not right for the time. Anyway word got back to the guy and he just gave her to me! She is such a swetheart and I'm already attached. I think I would like to have another. I really like the bloodred corns. Does anyone know if you can keep jungles in the same tank as corns?

It's not a wise idea to keep any snakes together in a tank because they are prone to cannibalism. I had one of my rat snakes eat his cage mate. I wouldn't recommend it.

Yeah, do a search on the forum about cannibalism. I'm sure you'll have a lot to think about from some of the stuff you find, but it is ultimately the choice of the owner. Just keep in mind that snakes of different sizes shouldn't be kept together at all as it can put a lot of stress on the smaller snake.

Not only that...

Keep in mind that a jungle corn is a hybrid cross of corn snake x california king snake!

Kingsnakes are notorius cannibals, and yes corns can and will also.

I think it's in your best interest not to test those waters, obviously just my opinions though.

It is my understanding that kings are not just cannibals, but snake predators, actively seeking other belly crawlers for food. The name king comes from their ability to prey on rattlesnakes. I'd house two pure corns together before I'd house a king cross with anything. But I'd have to be desparate to put two corns together. As Flygning says, it's the owners choice, but I try not to tempt fate.

Yea, this is very true, and very amazing too. The King Snake is the only animal in the world that is immune to the venom of a rattle snake. Another little known fact is that some of the King snakes can make a sound from their mouths that sounds just like a rattle snake rattle.
