Luna the lavender pewter, my first snake :)

meowmacita

save the big kitties
Here is Luna, my lavender pewter (charcoal plasma?) corn snake. She is a year and a half old but still only ~30grams! Petite little thing but healthy and beautiful. I got her from one of the members on this site (wamba681 :) ) and she arrived on St.Patricks Day. I wanted a smaller pink/purpley snake with dark eyes, so she is perfect for me.
She has been very afraid since her trip. The first time I went to handle her was after she had been with me a week and she struck at me 4 times. I have never Her bites didn't hurt but scared me enough to leave her alone for awhile, which I know is bad training, but I didn't want to stress her out. However, I put on some gloves and had some nice handling time with her the past few days, and made sure to only put her back when she was relaxed. I hope she turns into a nice calm little snake. I'm the only one of my close friends or family to own a corn snake and I want to use her as an ambassador to show them snakes are cool. Anyway, I wanted to keep a thread for her as she grows :)

These pictures are when I first got her (in the deli cup), when she was settling in (coiled up) and from yesterday. I picked her up with gloves on then took them off to get her used to my bare hands.

*I have never gotten a snake out of a viv before and didn't know how to approach her.
Sorry bout that, would edit the post if I could.

She's a pretty little thing! If the gloves make you feel more confident I say go right ahead. Seems to me that snakes can feel your energy (do I sound like a snake whisperer? :nyah: ). If you are afraid and putting out a nervous vibe it's more likely that the snake will be jerky and restless.

I once had a Honduran Milk Snake that bit me. I was nervous around him and consequently every time I attempted to handle him he would get agitated. One day a friend was over and wanted to see him. I gave him no warning about the snake's potenial agitation. My friend remained calm, and the snake did as well.

Just stick with it!! You may have to work a little harder with this one than a calmer snake, but there's hope for your little hateling yet!

One final bit of advice.. never feed this one inside its viv. Always feed her in a separate container.

I just mean, I use tongs in the hopes that she will associate them with food. I guess now that she is getting used to me I can start putting her in a separate container, especially since I have a scale now too, and will be weighing her before meals.

Since I started this thread, I have picked her up twice without gloves, with no striking :) I also upgraded her home from plastic to glass so I can see her better, and it gives her a little more room to explore vertically! I'll post a pic shortly. I am trying to think of a background I could print out and tape on that might go with the theme of her furniture. I'm thinking something like an ancient ruins/jungle scene.

She's lovely! My lavender is a little snot...he thinks he's all big and bad...pffft...as soon as I get him out of his viv he's handleable (I've had to help him shed just about every time due to him being unable to do a complete shed himself and his flat out refusal to use a moist hide). Hopefully she will continue to tame down for you :) I love those purple flowers!

Haha i think i read somewhere that its pretty common with Lavender morphs, that they are a little sassy?

Oh my yes...lavenders, bloodreds (holds true to my beauty..she's a real b*tch lol)...but that's ok, I like a little 'tude to offset my sweet snakes lol

Your Lavender is lovely. My first and second snakes were Charisma, a hypo lavender and Frostbite, a blizzard.
Charisma has an amazing personality. I open the viv, she comes straight to me and climbs up my shirt. I love her. Frostbite is a tab shy. He does not come to me but he is very sweet and has never even offered to strike. I think yours will sweeten up.

Yeah my plasma is a sweetheart, its my charcoal that's misleading trust me he's not smiling and shining with those cute chibi cheeks he just does not take well to people.

Thank you everyone! I think she's very pretty too :) im happy to report she hasn't bit me since I wrote that original post! And I'm not even using gloves anymore. Small victories :)

I have a feeding question. Can I feed her again before I find poop or should I wait until she passes her last meal? It seems like she takes almost a week to poop and I want to feed her every 6 days.

Last night I went to handle Luna but I had to look for her, she was under the aspen, and I discovered her eyes were blue!! It's her first shed with me. It explains why I felt like I hadn't seen her out and active in a few days, like she's been since I've had her. She let me handle her the past few days but was on the move, trying to get down. I wonder if that was her being grumpy because she is blue, and that hopefully after she sheds she will be more relaxed?

Your viv is so cool I love it !!sounds like what Theo done we have just had our first shed with our little guy and exact behaviour x

My girl is up to 44g now, up 14 grams since I got her in March! It is a big difference when I look back at pictures. I think she is nearing 2 years old now. She has tamed down quite a bit with regular handling and she loves to crawl in my hair if i let her. My boyfriend thinks it's weird lol but I love her!!
