Lunchtime Poll: Favorite Digital Probe Thermometer?

Hey!

Upgrading my, um, analog probe thermometer to a digital probe -- & the choices on Amazon.com etc are overwhelming.

I'm thinking an indoor/outdoor with probe, so probe can be affixed to the glass over the UTH pad on warm side, & thermometer itself can go on cool side. Something like this?

http://www.amazon.com/TX5170-Indoor...8BHM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1296665647&sr=8-3

What thermometer do you love? Hate? Recommend?

Question: does the thermometer itself need to be INSIDE the tank to read the cool side? Is there that much of a difference btwn the temp inside of tank, & the temp a few inches up, if the unit was sitting on the screen top of the tank, or right beside it?

Follow up Question: Do I actually need a humidity gauge, like this one has? Or is it enough to provide a humid hide etc when Clementine goes into blue?

Thanks!

I like this one, from Big Apple. Two probe, two temp, no humidity.

I don't use a humidity gauge, but I live in a humid climate. I try to mist the viv a few times while the snake is in blue, and cover the screen loosely with plastic wrap to keep the humidity in. I did humid hides when I had fewer snakes, but some of them didn't like them. Misting/plastic wrap works for everyone! In the racks, I just mist every couple days, when the snake is in blue.

You can measure either the warm and cold side, or warm sides of two different vivs.

I use the accurite brand thermometers you can find at walmart. Its only one probe but it measures ambient temp, probed temp, and humidity. I put the probe above the heat source, and the actual thermometer on the cool side to measure the temps there. I definitely need the humidity gauge so I find that helpful.

Radioshack has a great one for $14.99.

They don't have the pic on their site yet, however it's an indoor outdoor thermometer. Which means you can put the probe on the inside of the tank (right above the UTH) and then the main part on your cool side (or outside the tank). The main part also takes the humidity so it's a perfect 3 in 1 with only 1 probe so you don't have too much wiring.

OR

You can also get this.

It's a thermostat for the heat mat. You can program it to keep it at the warm temp you want and it has a probe that keeps it's current temperature.

I...have both. Haha. Good luck.

Oooh. Does it keep temperature, too -- or do I still need a thermometer (I have a dimmer to regulate the UTH pad already).

It's good to have a thermometer as a back up in case the thermostat isn't accurate. It might say it's at 88 when it's really 95 type deal...

Just to double check it. However, my thermometer and thermostat read the same temp because the probes are in the same spot.

Personally it's good to have, but I doubt the thermostat you get will be broken... You might be fine with your analog as the backup.

But yes. The main part of the thermostat reads whatever temp the probe is sensing so it is the same as a digital thermometer.
