Magical Heat Tape?

greymaiden

Love and Hisses
Alright, I've begun setting up a decent sized breeding operation, including building some shelves for my sterelite bins. (Plans and pics will be posted when I finish bolting htem together!)

The only thing I have left to do is line my shelves with heat tape so my snakes have a heat gradient.

My question is, what EXACTLY is this magical heat tape? Is it the same stuff you wrap around pipes in the winter to keep them from freezing? And if so, that stuff is rather skinny, so will I need several strips of it? When wired to a different thermostat, will it actually get up to the 95 degrees-ish I need to warm up my snakes' encolsures? Any advice on the best way to do this wiring?

I am really all set up and ready to go except for this magical heat tape that supposedly exists somewhere. It's baffling me. Could someone post a link to the sort of thing everyone is talking about?

Thanks!

Ditto what CAV and princess said, but you may also want to re-think your temp zone. For corns you only want to get up to about 80-85 at the hot end.

True, I know that. But I've found on the heat pads that I have that they generally need to be a little hotter to maintain the temperature. The tubs and the substrate suck up and distribute some of that heat. Thanks everyone for the links :)

Here's the company that makes FlexWatt: Calorique

They will sell it to you in bulk. It's a little more costly up front because of having to buy a larger amount, though. They also have the metal connectors and the plastic insulators. If I remember correctly, you have to call and talk to someone to get pricing info. I don't think I ever found the flexWatt listed on the site. That could have changed now, however.
