Making a naturalistic vivarium?

Hello

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on making a natural viv for an amphibian, with live plants, etc. I'm making for a green frog (Rana clamitans) that I've had for about 3 years. I want to make her a wetland type of biome, so I would be adding duckweed, hornwort, water lettuce and other such plants. I am keeping the frog in a 20 gallon aquarium, and I plan to add some kind of glass separator in the middle, with one side being aquatic and the other side being terrestrial. I have a few questions though. If I add a good amount of plants to the vivarium, would I still need a conventional aquarium filter, or would the plants be enough to naturally absorb harmful compounds and provide oxygen? If anyone has made a wetland vivarium before, what kind of plants would you recommend?
