Making a picture fit the avitar

I've been trying to make my photos fit the requirements for the avitar, but it's not working. How do you guys do yours? Is there a program I need to do this? I want a picture of one of my snakes on there is possible. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Yep, you just need a photo editing program (like the freely downloadable Irfanview) to resize to 160x160.

If you don't have a photo editing program and if you have a photo that you want resized, I can do that for you, just email it to me (email in my signature).
