Male or female?

Hi all,

It seems from my reading here that male and female corns have substantially different behaviour during the female's fertile times when her pheromones are wafting about, but is their behaviour particularly different at other times? If a person were to get only one corn (and yes, I see from the posts here that stopping at one is like having only one piece of chocolate!), which sex would you advise and why, or doesn't it make any great difference?

Looking forward to your thoughts.

Cheers,

Margaret

I would advise you to get a male for a few reasons. If you get a male, you avoid the possibility of egg-binding in the female snake, which can happen to unbred females. The only problem that I have had with my male snakes is that they can go off-feed during the breeding months, but if you just remember that and don't freak out because they are not eating, then you are okay. Plus, single male cornsnakes are cheaper than buying a single female if you buy one from Rich (serpenco) or Kathy Love (corn-utopia). Let us know what you decide.
