hi, need advice reg. my mouse colony, i have 1 male & 4 females in a 50gal tank,i remove the male after making sure that all 4 females are already pregnant, yesterday 1 of the female gave birth,i dont know the exact number of babies but i saw 3 of them, after that i just put food in the tank and didn't bother them anymore, but when i check my tank this morning all the babies are gone,i've check the beddings and saw a headless pinkie. i still have 3 pregnant female, what will i do now? should i continue breeding this colony? give them another chance or i should cull them all and establish a new colony? it's my first time doing this, don't have an experience, help pls...

first time mines often eat their babies, my first mouse done that but then went on to be the best breeder that I had. I also find keeping the male in with them helps as they are usually good at looking after the babies. I would just leave the mums in together and hope the others look after theirs and dont eat them.

As Claireree stated 1st time moms usally eat the 1st litter. I also have been told and have experimented with there diet a little. Higher fat/protien right around birth time and until the babies are weaned. This has seemed to help I had 2 1st timers this past month that didnt eat the babies. I don't know if that was the cause or not but it couldn't hurt to try.
