Masochistic Behavior? D:

My little corn keeps going up to the top of his cage and grating his face along the lid. I figure he just wants to come out so I take him out but as soon as it's time to go back in he keeps it up. He has no injuries on his head or nose from it, but it looks like it would be painful and possibly harmful so I ask for advice in case it is. Please help.

That's typical escape-seeking behavior. Some will actually rub their nose or face raw, but most don't hurt themselves. I'd think metal screening has the most potential for danger. If he hasn't yet hurt himself yet, he probably won't is my guess.

As babies, they're constantly patrolling, looking for escape routes. He does want to come out, but on his terms not yours! I suggest you leave him in peace and try to minimise stress.

This is normal behaviour for a baby and it will gradually settle down, although most adults do this at various times. It's just not as constant as when they're little.

It should look like curious, exploratory behavior, not so much like "I gotta get out of here, man, I'm breakin' out tonight".
If your snake is unsatisfied with their conditions, feels exposed, or wants something that isn't being provided, he will constantly try to escape.
Even in the best of conditions, some snakes will always try to escape. The best you can do it so minimize the danger, like putting them in a tub so there's no grate to rub against, and if they fall, it's a 4" drop onto soft substrate, not a 12" drop onto a rock or water crock.
Most snakes will outgrow it eventually, some never will. Giving your buddy something to do like explore some toilet paper tubes or a couple small cardboard boxes that they can check out.

When mine does this, my cat walks by and smacks him so he falls lol. It's mean of her, but I can't help but laugh.

I have 2 babies that used to do this constantly. Both have seemed to calm down with it lately. I also have a very large adult male that has been doing this for about a month and I'm assuming he's feeling lovey. I've also got a female adult that just started doing this a couple of weeks ago. Again, probably just wanting some lovin'!
