Meet Franklin

We got everything set up and purchased our new buddy today. We have no idea about sex or color morph but love him all the same. His name is Franklin, I'm sure we'll have plenty of questions along the way but so far things are going well. We're letting him settle in right now but my 4 year old had to hold him for a minute before he went in. Here's Nolan with Franklin. I'll get some more pics as he gets used to his new surroundings.

He looks lovely, congrats on the new member.
I must say, never considered a snow white castle instead of a tank for a snake ;)
I bet your 4 yr old will be so eager to meet him again once he's settled in!

Haha, yeah I wish I could say that was the only doll house around here but there are a few of them. I also have a six year old little girl. I share my aquarium room with the kids which now has become the fish/snake room.

Thanks spyderk, he is an animal lover for life but my little girl not so much, haha. I know he'll do a great job helping me take care of Franklin. It'll be really cool watching them grow up together.

Well, regardless of research and prep time I still ended up with the hide log of doom and can't keep him from getting behind the foam background. It's an exo terra tank, at first he was getting in the little notches for the wires so I filled them in with styrofoam. Wake up this morning and he's back there again, right in the middle. All I can think is he went under the bottom this time.

Congrats on the new addition! :)

and I actually just went through the same issue with my background on my exo terra.. and my snakes a yearling.

I just took it out, its stored away for now until he gets bigger lol

Thanks Justine :), I cut some pieces of styrofoam as tight as possible and stuck them in the spaces and so far he hasn't got back there again. I'm not sure it'll hold him but for now it seems to be working.

Franklin is a pretty easy going little guy so far, he's a little jumpy here and there but not too bad. I'm sure we'll both get more and more used to each other in time. My little man Nolan is doing really well holding him so far, I keep it to just a couple minutes at a time due to his age and attention span but overall he's followed instructions great and Franklin doesn't seem to mind at all.

Here's a couple really bad close up pics, but at least it shows his color/pattern a bit more. I'm guessing he's an Amel?

Well, he ate for us really well on Tuesday and has been pretty reclusive since. Of all the hides I've bought for him his favorite is an empty roll from some paper towels, go figure.

my youngest scale baby Lucy (female Blizzard corn) loooves her toilet paer roll hide! I find her all cute and coiled in there quite often :)

Home cute. I remember when my little buddy was that small.

He was due to eat again tomorrow but the last couple days his skin has really lightened and today his eyes are cloudy. I'm assuming our first shed is coming which brings a few questions. How long does this process take on average? I'm sure it varies but how often can we expect a shed from him? I've read pretty mixed opinions on whether to feed or not but I think I'm gonna hold off until after the shed, thoughts?

Shedding is a private affair for most snakes, so he'll be hiding probably for a week or so, his eyes will clear up again, then he will shed a couple days later. Usually the day after to a couple days after, they'll start being active again.
